Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Ensures that the operating objectives are consistent with those of Grid Systems Integration (GSI) to ensure efficient and effective implementation of the technical solution across the consortium and Programme.
Engages in tenders and define the strategy based on return of experience of previous tenders and projects.
Drives the accomplishment of established project technical goals and objectives, tracking of consortium controls / gates.
Check effectiveness of design against delivery of contract requirements and look for global optimisation opportunities across consortium during basic & detailed design
Manages a diverse team of / technical staff, both directly and indirectly including PEDs (Project Engineering Directors), PEMs (Project Engineering Managers) and PEs (Project Engineers).
Consults, coordinates, and serves as the principal liaison with the different PEDs on strategic technical matters when it comes development, improvement, and change management.
Recommends and participates in the return of experience and continuous improvement of GSI Engineering processes and procedures
Review of the project time schedule for engineering activities in close collaboration with PED, PEM and the planner, challenge and verify the engineering teams' inputs an associated budget management (Engineering hours).
Accountable for all required technical interfaces, establishing, and driving the use of the same
Supports PED's with reviews of the workstream designs and integration.
Accountable to maintain the design as per contract consistency across the portfolio and ensure that any changes are verified through the Change Review Process.
Drives and facilitates problem solving and Root Cause Analysis for related to technical issues
Ensure safety by design, HAZID, HAZOP and HAZCON are undertaken and consortium and portfolio synergies considered.
Define and validate the design quality plan at the portfolio level and including that defined at project level by the PED's.
Review and follow up on technical risks and opportunities for the portfolio, driving the corresponding mitigation / action plans as well as participating at the project level reviews.
Co-ordinate and support the operations team on issues related to projects by providing technical expertise as needed to meet business requirements.
Help in effectively closing out HVDC Project Backlog by determining open issues and setting effective targets in conjunction with the operations leader.
Help in developing tools and methodologies to record and manage RAM data .
Plan and help carry out risk assessment of ongoing projects that are nearing or in close out phase.
Take technical leadership of open issues and co-ordinate with the internal HVDC departments in developing a plan of action for implementing enhancements to close out issues.
Desired Profile & Experience
Extensive years of HVDC engineering activities experience in various disciplines
Global experience and mindset including a high level of cultural competence and sensitivity
Experience of leading a consortium ideally across differing cultures and in HVDC market
Exceptional influencing and relationship building skills, and across cultures
Previous experience working as Project Engineer Director or similar with a good understanding of all technical disciplines and their part in the overall HVDC solution
Commissioning experience an added advantage
Proven system integration skills, experience in managing technical interfaces and requirements management.
Skilled in identifying, handling, and mitigating technical risk in projects
Demonstrated presentation skills and ability to succinctly communicate complex messages
Being passionate in leading teams in complex projects and deliver results in dynamic environments
Proven ownership & accountability, judgment and decision making
Willingness to work in different locations for short or medium period and to travel worldwide.
