About the General Motors Global Data, AI & Analytic Services (GDAAS) Team:
GM has announced numerous steps to strengthen its position as a global automotive leader. GM has constructed an Enterprise Business Intelligence Ecosystem as one of the cornerstones to achieve this objective. As a member of the Maxis Business Intelligence & Advanced Analytics team you will play a significant role in helping GM implement an end-to-end data and business intelligence ecosystem. GM is seeking dynamic individuals who will leverage their industry knowledge and experiences to design, architect, deploy, and manage this evergreen collection of technologies.
The role is accountable to work with project teams to develop robust system designs that meet the criteria for functionality, stability, performance and resiliency to deliver effective IT solutions for our business.
Duties include working on numerous project teams, often as the sole system management engineer, to develop requirements, obtain information from other support groups, execute project tasks, deliver systems, and provide support through the lifecycle of the project.
Responsibilities include ensuring IT standards are met, production readiness processes are followed and a quality system product is delivered and turned over to Production Support personnel.
The role may also be called upon for escalation of real-time incidents. Responsibilities include advising junior staff in appropriate steps to diagnose, repair or remediate issues with systems when assigned.
Holds themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GMs values and cultural behaviors. Models GM behaviors and creates a winning culture. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge: The role requires expert knowledge of technologies in the assigned domain, robust knowledge of general IT concepts. Additional Job Description
The Business Intelligence Platform Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance of multi-tier application environments across several business intelligence products including their installation, patching, fine-tuning, and troubleshooting. They will collaborate with subject matter experts from various internal business groups and interact with vendor technical support staff to identify root-causes and resolve technical issues. The platform engineer will collaborate and assist with defining, configuring, maintaining, monitoring and troubleshooting GM's enterprise business intelligence software Cognos, Tableau and Power BI (on PREM and Cloud), as well as with creating end-user guides, best practices, policies, and procedures for business intelligence products.
The Business Intelligence Platform Engineer will consult and provide recommendations on the design of business intelligence shared solutions for maximum efficiency and performance, helping tune business intelligence jobs and processes where necessary. They will analyze complex business, functional, and technical requirements to develop code stubs and complete code for others to implement solutions. The engineer will independently implement end user and enterprise services as part of a standard, self-serve service model.
Qualifications:
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, related discipline or equivalent experience
- Linux/Unix or Windows system administration skills or experience with a focus on business intelligence and analytics tools
- Understanding of Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing concepts and best practices
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell and Bash
- Knowledge of object-oriented languages (such as Java, C#)
- Passionate and motivated to learn new technologies
- 3+ years of experience working in an Operations role and environment
- 3+ years of experience in large, global companies
- Experience working with APIs implementation.
- Ability to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation to ensure the 24x7 production stability of the environment through disciplined change management, timely communications and planning
- Able to prioritize and execute tasks and conform to changing priorities
- Adept at troubleshooting and managing production incidents
- Good technical writing skills.
Major Responsibilities and Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Maintain the Business Intelligence software including installation, patching and troubleshooting
- Create an implement standards, processes, and procedures related to infrastructure setup, platform administration, security, clustering, upgrade management, monitoring, capacity planning, and disaster recovery, etc.
- Document and evangelize tool usage best practices
- Desire to collaborate with key stakeholders/application teams to understand, document and prioritize their business intelligence capability needs
- Proficient with Business Intelligence Tools such as Power BI, Cognos, Tableau, MDSP/Jupyter, and/or MDLE/Dremio.
- Proficient with Cloud-Based Containers technologies such as Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes, Docker, or similar technologies
- Experience working with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Teradata, or Greenplum
Experience and familiarity with IT Best Practices in large enterprises and their implications relative to repeatable solution development
Experience across multiple server operating system, hardware and virtualization is preferred.
