Job Description
Our growing User Experience organization is looking for a talented lead designer who understands and appreciates digital design from a customer, stakeholder, and brand perspective. The ideal candidate will be able to lead a brand and its visual essence along a project and help steer feedback and dialog and filter that to compare against other brand.Candidates should have experience researching, iterating, concepting, and producing digital user interfaces for the in-vehicle experience (Digital Instrument Cluster, Touchscreens, Front and Rear Seat Infotainment and HUD). You must have the ability to adapt and develop digital brand character that is harmonious with the overall cockpit experience.
You will work on a team of multidisciplinary skills like researchers, product/visual designers and software engineers to synthesize Design and functional needs into our next generation of in-vehicle user interfaces and controls. Ideally the designs created in this space will provide our users with a simple yet solid connection to their in-vehicle technology and solidify our respective brands (Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC) as leaders in this space.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with senior team members and cross functional leaders to craft a world-class user experience across all our products and platforms.
- Balance user needs, technical constraints, and business objectives to solve problems effectively.
- Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship for a multi-disciplinary team of interaction designers, graphic designers, and developers while advocating the best design for the end user and giving / receiving feedback.

- Create Prototypes
- Present work to senior leadership
- Develop talent and share skills within the team
- Deliverables will include sketches, drawings, diagrams, animations, presentations, prototypes, wireframes, storyboards and any other effective communication medium.
Additional Job Description
Qualifications
- 5+ years' experience creating vehicle interfaces
- Formal training or degree in Visual Design or related discipline
- Candidate must provide a strong portfolio with work samples showcasing UX expertise, interaction, design, creativity, and depth of thought.
- Ability to exercise restraint in design
- Ability to create across a wide range of digital media (3D, 2D, prototype, animation)
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep understanding of the competitive landscape in this space
- Prototyping experience(Software and/or hardware development experience a plus)
- Usability testing experience (Heuristic evaluation, developing and executing test protocols)
- Experience in advanced visual design principles and practices
- Solid understanding of technology and the product development lifecycle
- Comfortable with digital design tools
- Automotive User Interface portfolio is a plus
Location
Candidates who reside outside of Michigan can decide if they would like to relocate near General Motors Technical Center in Warren, Michigan OR reside and perform the work from anywhere within the United States (work from home).
