Job Description
In our pursuit to create a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion, GM's Global Manufacturing Engineering team is challenging the limits on what is possible and embracing agility as it reimagines how to build the next generation of vehicles. Our diverse team of Manufacturing Engineers play a crucial role in transforming our facilities through implementing the adoption of ground-breaking technologies. From raw sheet metal to final assembly, this team is reinventing the tools and processes that will enable GM to deliver on our promise to create an all-electric future.
Process Engineer, Controls. Responsible for controls engineering plant floor support for Machine Controls. Work is performed at Pre-Production Operations (PPO) plant where creativity and initiative are exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.
6th or 7th level promotional based upon experience.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
o Provide hands-on electrical/controls engineering support to body shop operations group
o Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all plant contacts
o Provide engineering expertise and leadership to develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives including modification & installation of equipment
o Keep equipment running efficiently to produce quality products
o Ability to compose and provide daily end-of-shift progress reports is required.
Basic Skills Required
o 3+ years of experience as a controls/robotics engineer
o Strong technical knowledge of electrical/control systems and the ability to apply these concepts within a manufacturing environment
o Demonstrated basic understanding of mechanical concepts involving machine designs, process requirements involved in the manufacturing process
o Experience in PLC and HMI programming, Ethernet and/or DeviceNet networks
o Knowledge of servo motors, motion control and drives
o Knowledge of plant floor systems including Error Proofing, Production Monitoring and Control, Andon Systems
o Problem solving, analytical, interpersonal and communications skills required
o Ability to design and trouble shoot electrical controls systems
o Demonstrated Excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members to solve problems and resolve issues.
o Demonstrated ability to manage challenging projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results
o Prior manufacturing controls and/or robotics assignments with successful individual achievements
o Self motivated and ability to multitask
Preferred Skills
o Demonstrated understanding of plant floor work
o General knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics is a plus
o Prior work experience as a controls engineer in the automotive field
o Knowledge of GM's common global controls architecture
o Experience in Fanuc robots setup and programming
Education
o Bachelor's degree with major in engineering or equivalent experience/training.
