EXPERTISE
Demonstrates very good understanding of the casting processes and procedures relevant to own work area with the ability to exercise decision-making skills sufficient to identify and propose solutions to leadership. Understands different areas of their function and how the operations of their area relate to others.
Identifies and corrects non-routine problems in existing systems and processes through independent judgment. Independently identifies and applies appropriate company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.

Supervise a small group of Lab Tech's across all 3 shifts.
Preplan and arrange weekend and holiday coverage for the department with high flexibility
Responsible for supporting activities that may include:
SORs and project management for tools, stations or specific technologies.
Typically part of a larger effort or project manufacturing process definition
Sequence of operations
Human factors consideration
Efficient material flow
Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high quality parts providing technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources

Assists in implementing engineering changes through materials laboratory analysis
Must be able to troubleshoot plant issues, make disposition on questionable or rejected materials, maintain equipment calibration, performance, and service.
Participates in solution of engineering related product problems (Root Cause)
Provides technical direction to support personnel
Knowledge of manufacturing processes / procedures as well as quality control and environmental procedures
Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods improvement, product improvements, and to support build programs
Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all stakeholders.
Communicates information to and from internal and external customers
Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering such as Manufacturing and Quality
Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all stakeholders.
Supports business team in Business Plan Deployment (BPD) process
Stays abreast of new technology and continuous improvement potentials
Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities: ( Required Qualifications):
Degree with major in metallurgical engineering, materials science or chemistry, physics or equivalent experience.
3-5 years of experience in Metallurgical or Casting Process experience
Ability to work all shifts (1st, 2nd & 3rd)
Ability to work OT and weekends
Knowledge of heat treatment of Aluminum castings
Experience supervising employees in a manufacturing environment
Thorough knowledge of materials, substances and their characteristics.
Problem solving and continuous improvement skills.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
Metallurgic or Material Science Bachelors or Master.
5+ years of experience in Metallurgical or Casting Process experience
In-depth experience with Materials lab equipment.
Work Arrangement:
Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Defiance, Ohio on a full-time basis.
