First Mile's software engineers areresponsible forideating, incubating,and deliveringnewtechnology for General Motors. We work closely with our Global Innovation and Chief Data Analytics Office to exploregrowth opportunities outside of the company's core, existing businesses.Our teamincludesbest-in-industryengineers,product owners, and designerswho have an ambition to moveat lightning speed,deliver world-class software, and deliver high-quality, innovative software that delights our customers.

Prospectiveteam memberspossess a high degree of business insight, creativity, decision making skills, a drive for results, the ability to negotiate, the ability to developstrongpeer relationships, and a strong technical learning capabilityand focus.

For this role you will be responsible for:

• Developing data architecture and ETL solutions using sound, repeatable, industry standard methodologies. You will have the opportunity to work hands-on defining ETL solutions based on business requirements and system specifications.

• Development activities will include enhancing existing data systems and optimizing ETL systems.
  Additionally you will lead development activities to migrate out of legacy technologies to GM's Big Data Platform utilizing new technologies such as, Kafka, Hadoop, PySpark, Greenplum and GM's internally developed Big Data tools.

• In this role you will also lead junior developers, mentor, coach and help them to develop their software development skills in Data Engineering technologies.

• Demonstrate mastery of many programming languages, tools and/or technologies with emphasis on ETL & Database development

• Understand and maintain compliance with GM standards and industry standard methodology

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Communicate and maintains Master Data, Metadata, Data Management Repositories, Logical Data Models, Data Standards

• Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture

• You will assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements

• You will identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.

• Build industrialized analytic datasets and delivery mechanisms that utilize the data pipeline to deliver actionable insights into vehicle quality, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics

• Work with business partners on data-related technical issues and develop requirements to support their data infrastructure needs

• Create highly consistent and accurate analytic datasets suitable for business intelligence and data scientist team members

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience with Agile teams that haveregularlydelivered software while practicing code review

• Excellent verbal and written communication skillsand ability to effectively communicate and translate feedback, needs and solutions

• Creativeproblem-solvingskillsthat deliver elegant solutions to complex issues

• Strongteamworkfocus (live by the team, die by the team)and the ability to foster collaboration within and across teams

• At least 3 years of hands on experience with Big Data Tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.

• Master databases - Advanced SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres and Cassandra, Oracle and Greenplum

• Data Wrangling and Preparation using GM's approved tools: PySpark, Jupyter etc. Stream-processing systems: Storm, Spark-Streaming, etc.

• Ability to tackle software engineering and data problems quickly and completely

• Ability to identify tasks which require automation and automate them

• Ability to multi-task and stay organized in a dynamic work environment and work collaboratively with other IT organizations

• Bachelor's degree in computer scienceor related field, or, equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• 7 or more years with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc.
