The Strategic Incubation team is creating new Data Engine technologies supporting fast data pipelines, geospatial processing and visualization of billion data points. The fast data pipeline and subsequent storage and integration with machine learning delivers extraordinary performance at scale.
In this software development role, you will be responsible for developing software applications using sound, repeatable, industry standard methodologies. You will have the opportunity to work hands-on writing software or solutions, based on detailed requirements and system specifications. Development activities will include updating existing software and/or developing new software solutions to address a specific need or solve a particular business problem. Additionally, you will drive development activities in accordance with appropriate methodologies and application of a repeatable, systematic and quantifiable approach to the development process. You will coach/mentor software developers and will review the software being developed. This role will also work closely with architects and/or data scientists to ensure code alignment with design patterns/frameworks.
As a senior member of our development team, you will contribute to:
- The full stack technology solution and drive the technical execution
- You will be solving complex problems, and working on difficult challenges in software engineering as the scale and suite of our services grow
- You will work with key stake holders in product management and executive teams to define strategy and requirements
- You will lead cross functional development of new technology from design to deployment
Joining the GM Hyperscale Engineering team gives you the opportunity to:
- Work on disruptive products that's still in its early stages
- Solve challenging problems that will revolutionize fast data pipelines using actor systems, storage and geospatial processing of data and integration with machine learning
- Build a product that will leverage CPU, GPU, kubernetes and the scale of the resources in the GM internal cloud
- Be involved in the fast growing, big data space
Responsibilities include
- You will be responsible for requirement analysis, design, implementing and testing software solutions to solve some of the most advanced technical challenges facing the industry
- As a key member of the High-Performance Computing team, you will be responsible for the design and development of distributed software platforms that will be used for big-data analytics and machine-learning
- Experience with open-source tools on Linux is highly desired along with the ability to experiment, evaluate and recommend best of breed solutions
- You should be somebody who enjoys working on complex system software, is very customer-centric, understands the big picture and feels strongly not only about building good software but about making that software achieve its goals.
Additional Job Description
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (related field) or equivalent work experience
- 7+ years in software development using Java, C++, Python, or related.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases like Cassandra
- Experience working with modern open-source tools for distributed computing (like Apache Spark, Hadoop, Apache Pulsar, Kafka, Redis, HDFS, ECS S3 etc.)
- Exposure to actor based programming toolkits like Akka
- 7+ years industry experience as a Software Engineer or a Software developer with experience as a Senior Engineer leading teams in an agile environment
- Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures and algorithm design, and complexity analysis
- 2+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
