Job Description
Hybrid Work Position: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. In the USA, this is an employee who lives 100 miles or less from their designated, primary worksite.
This position requires an employee to be onsite monthly.
Background:
GM is moving to 100% virtual engineering by 2025 to achieve industry leading speed, built-in quality, and new product throughput. This virtual design, development, and validation (VDDV) team works on every part and integration area of every future, current, and past GM vehicle.
One key to this a the 1-D model, where 1-D is defined as non-geometric models in tool chains like Simulink, CarSim, GT-Suite, Modellica/Dymola, etc. Full vehicle models in this space are an integration of sub-system models of many formats and sources.
These virtual vehicles in the 1-D space will include the following types of sub-system models:
Empirical/parametric and hardware models
Detailed physics-based hardware 1-D models
Controls Behavioral models (MiL)
Software models (SiL)
These sub-system models come from many cross functional areas (both physical and SW/controls):
Propulsion & Energy
Suspension Compliance & Kinematics
Thermal & Powertrain Cooling
Tires
Aerodynamics
This integration activity of sub-systems models into vehicle integration models is an evolving space.
A significant development of people/process/tools will be required to achieve a robust process to create integration models that are verified/validated 'digital twins' of the physical development vehicles that they are replacing.
Description:
Lead people/process/tools development for 1-D vehicle integration models throughout the entire GM Vehicle Development Process (VDP).
Key Responsibilities:
Functional organizations within GM have individual sub-system integration models that contain both controls and software. The key responsibility will be to co-ordinate these cross functional activities into an overall plan with the goal of creating vehicle integration models.
This position will be a touchpoint between SMT (e.g. release engineers), program teams (e.g. vehicle teams), Agile Resource Teams (e.g. Software), and VDDV (e.g. simulation teams)
Manage "Virtual Software" and "Plant model" Scorecard for the sub-systems in virtual vehicle assessments.
Develop Controls Model Integration Strategy across functional areas and their associated standard work/timing templates.
Develop controls model integration strategies to meet testing needs (MiL, SiL, HiL, DiL, etc)
Define how VDDV is supporting VTS, SSTS (SoR), STS paragraphs affected by Controls/Mechanical integrations
Co-ordinate simulation requirements for internal deliverables and external contracts (SOR)
Co-ordinate VDDV plant model deliverables to XiL teams
This position requires an individual with a passion for modeling, an adept knowledge of system simulation and integration, and a demonstrated capability for managing a wide variety of technical and customer needs. A balance of technical skills and project leadership skills is critical.
Additional Job Description
Required Skills and Experience:
7+ Years of vehicle controls integration experience
Vehicle Level Simulation(s)
Vehicle physics and modelling
Vehicle Dynamics
Tires (and tire modelling)
Aerodynamics/Thermal (both preferred)
Electric Propulsion systems (Battery Electric Vehicles)
Developing Advanced Control Systems
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Knowledge of CAE software and hardware capabilities
Development Tools (Matlab, Simulink, CarSim, etc)
Simulators (DIL/HIL)
DOE Design/Analysis (DFSS Blackbelt Certification preferred)
Data Analytics Tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc)
Education:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering Required.
