About the First Mile Team at General Motors:
Our First Mile team is responsible for ideating, incubating, testing and delivering on the next generation of ideas. This organization works with GM business partners to explore growth opportunities outside of the company's core, existing businesses and works to indoctrinate lean/agile methodologies in GM . Members of our teams include engineers, architects, designers and product managers who bring innovative and iterative methodologies and technologies together to achieve breakthrough results, drive innovation, and delight customers. About the Role:
The UX/UI Designer will fulfill the usability and design responsibilities during the development lifecycle for multiple projects and programs. You will work alongside product management, fellow design team members, development, and business stakeholders to collaborate and drive a user-centered design approach in a balanced-team. This role embodies a passionate, creative, yet pragmatic design doer that can empathize with customer needs and behaviors, identify opportunities, and successfully transform requirements into intuitive and elegant solutions. Our team is diverse, engaged, and moves intently so we expect you to not just keep up, but help lead the way.
Core Responsibilities:
Design and deliver outcomes that elegantly and intuitively answers the needs of our customers or facilitates an experiment while also supporting business objectives
Work throughout the design life cycle from research and ideation through development support and into testing
Convey design ideas in tangible forms like sketches, wires, prototypes, and annotated asset libraries
Work closely with the business and technical teams, and impliment guidance from balance-team leadership
Serve as a User Experience evangelist across the organization
Help translate business requirements and interaction design principles into user experiences that are engaging, intuitive and map to personas, objectives and the unique value propositions that drive the experiment.
Additional Job Description
Qualifications:
Minimum 2+ years of experience designing for web and mobile applications.
Bachelor's Degree in Design, Information Architecture or equivalent industry experience
Experience working on responsive web sites as well as mobile apps
Understanding of iOS and Android (mobile) design guidelines
General understanding of Information Architecture
Passion for great design, purposeful aesthetic sense, an eye for detail and a demonstrated understanding of typography, color, layout
Deep appreciation and talent for generating simple solutions to complex problems
Strong understanding of user experience and user-centered design approaches
Proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in order to meet milestones and deadlines
Aptitude for communicating design ideas persuasively and concisely both "up" and "across" an organization
Experience working cross-team and synthesizing feedback and input from product management, engineering, and marketing
Experienced in tools of the trade, e.g. Adobe, Azure, Zeplin, Sketch, etc.
Exposure to user testing scenarios
Design Portfolio of work with roles and responsibilities tied to work defined
This position is available in our Austin, Texas location only - relocation may be available for qualified candidates.
