Director, User Experience Research, Search Experiences

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, Interaction, and/or equivalent practical experience.

• 15 years of experience in an executive role creating strategy and designing products.

• Experience working with designers, product managers, and engineers.

• Experience integrating research programs throughout the life cycle, including experience with digital, global products.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience leading large teams and driving strategy, career development, operations and culture both within research organizations as well as in partnership with User Experience Design, Product Management and Engineering teams.
• Experience making key contributions to innovative, successful products and building scaled global research infrastructure.
• Deep technical knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
• Solid communication skills, with the ability to articulate positions and advocate designs.
• Excellent managerial and operational skills.

About the job

As a User Experience Research (UXR) Director for Search Experiences, you will help drive a user-centered vision for Google Search. You will work closely with cross-functional partners, and be an advocate for delivering high-quality insights and collaboration with cross-functional partners. You will also drive initiatives that cultivate trust and transparency with our users and address business-critical legal, policy, and regulatory matters.

As a UXR leader, you will help define and drive the future of Google Search. In this role, you will apply your passion for insights, market intelligence, and product development, mentor talented members of your team, and collaborate with leaders within Product, Engineering, Data Science, Marketing and leads across all Google’s products. You will identify and set programs of research strategy and empower teams to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and evolution of a multi-year global product strategy for shifting user needs across surfaces.
• Build relationships with leaders and cross-functional partners to shape our overall strategy/plans. Work cross-functionally, including partnering with Engineering, Product Management, Data Science, Legal, Policy, PR, and Marketing.
• Build and manage a high-performing User Experience Research team. Set clear goals and objectives while balancing short-term development with long-term career growth.
• Communicate and promote best practices to partners to support the strategic priorities of Search.
• Partner closely with compliance, and develop a proactive strategy around the global regulatory environment.
