Global Commodity Manager, Thermal

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.

• 10 years of commodity management experience.

• Experience with a worldwide thermal supply base and technologies for server and storage infrastructure.

Preferred qualifications:

• MBA or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 15 years of commodity management and supply chain management experience in a high-tech industry.
• Cross-functional leadership or management experience.
• Deep understanding of thermal management from infrastructure to chip, including next generation cooling technologies, materials, components and solutions.
• Ability to drive change with a long-term perspective across multiple functions and transform the business.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication, and leadership skills.

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google's bottom line.

As a Commodity Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of supplier development and ongoing performance management regarding Google's cutting edge thermal technology and business needs. You will develop and execute Google's material acquisition strategy and reduce total cost of ownership for servers, storage and networking hardware, in support of our infrastructure deployment that powers all of Google's services. You will lead and participate in large projects, as well as understand and resolve complex issues that put company objectives at risk. You will be a key part of an end-to-end supply chain team that drives continuous improvement and ensures operational excellence in support of Google's rapid growth.

Responsibilities

• Develop commodity strategies and execute them.
• Lead cross-functional teams through robust supplier selection for new platforms. Engage with engineers on next generation technology initiatives by fostering vendor development of solutions road maps.
• Conduct high-level discussions and secure comprehensive agreements with supplier executives. Maintain a high level of industry expertise and supplier/market conditions.
• Develop vendor ecosystem of primary vendors and sub-tier components with an emphasis on large scale deployments and standardization.
• Manage supplier performance in cost, quality, delivery, and technology alignment. Implement supply chain improvements and maintain a high level of industry expertise and supplier/market conditions.
