Hardware Systems Engineer, Pixel

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

• 5 years of experience in consumer electronics or embedded system design.

• Experience with architecture and schematic design of circuit boards (e.g., chipset, memory, high-speed communication interfaces or power).

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with system integration of accelerometers, gyros, magnetometers, and other cutting edge sensor technology.
• Experience in the lab and want to be in the details (e.g., soldering, oscilloscopes, data acquisition) and passion for engineering.
• Experience with product development process for mass-volume production design, and design for manufacturing/test.
• Experience designing high speed digital and/or analog systems as well as experience with design of mobile phone base band.
• Experience in prototype bring-up and debugging, functional verification and manufacturing support.
• Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.

As a Hardware Engineer, you design and build the systems that are the heart of the world's largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. With your technical expertise, you lead projects in multiple areas of expertise (i.e., engineering domains or systems) within a data center facility, including construction and equipment installation/troubleshooting/debugging with vendors.

In this role, you will be an integral part of the entire process, especially involved in the system design, factory bring up, and test/validation cycles of the project.

The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate components and new technologies for next generation products based on product direction and end-user experiences. Keep up to date with technology trends and vendor road-maps.
• Create system specification documentation that translates the PRD (Product Requirement Document) requirements to a systems requirement specification.
• Lead complete functional verification, signal characterization, power modeling/test, and system coexistence testing.
• Design, develop, and/or review consumer hardware systems and sub-components from concept to mass production. Set factory test requirements, assisting in software bring up and traveling on-site to the manufacturer to ensure the design is built and tested successfully.
• Drive resolution of cross-functional issues including those related to architecture (e.g., performance, power consumption), production, and development (e.g., overall system integration). Work with suppliers/manufacturing partners to establish mutually beneficial relationships for future product designs.
