Position summary
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
6 years of experience creating content for a technical audience (e.g. developer documentation, CS course materials, and/or IT admin playbooks).
Preferred qualifications:
- Familiarity with server-side development technologies.
- Ability to write simple to complex code examples in Java, C++, Python and/or JavaScript.
- Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
About the job
Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.
In this role, you will provide documentation, education, developer support, and developer productivity programs for Googlers who build libraries, tools, and infrastructure for secure, production-ready, global-scale applications.
Responsibilities
- Learn complex technical information and write technical documentation (e.g., architectural overview, programming guides, and tutorials) for Google developers.
- Produce clear and succinct educational materials for developers who are in a big hurry to get a task done.
- Develop consistent content strategy, workflow, and prioritization across a complex domain space.
- Manage community-driven docs and drive active contributions.
- Edit documents written by others. Coach developers to improve their writing skills.
