Lead UX Writer, Security

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

• 8 years of experience in UX writing or online publishing.

• 3 years of experience managing UX writing teams.

• Portfolio of UX-focused writing samples and style guidelines for web and mobile applications.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience on user-focused product writing including work in hardware, software, digital agency, or other relevant product area.
• Ability to manage multiple differing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
• Excellent writing, editing, and project management skills.

About the job

As a UX writer, you are an advocate for Google design, shaping product experiences by creating useful, meaningful text that helps users complete tasks. You help set the vision for content and drive cohesive product narratives across multiple platforms and touch points. As a stellar writer, your portfolio of work demonstrates content that simplifies and beautifies the overall user experience. You work with people in a variety of UX design-related jobs including researchers, product managers, engineers, marketing and customer operations. Collaborating with each, you strive to establish cohesive language and a unified voice across products and platforms. You regularly use empathy, logic and data to inform content choices and recommendations that include the right words and sometimes complementary data and images.

The Privacy, Safety, and Security UX team is at the center of some of the most important, meaningful topics in technology today. Our work ranges from user-facing privacy and security experiences and settings to the Google Account experience to the evaluative tools employees use to ensure we meet our security and privacy goals.

Our users expect Google to help keep their account and data safe, and it is essential that we strike the right balance between opinionated, urgent, helpful, and reassuring. In this role, you’ll define Google’s Security narrative, build out a cohesive Security UX writing practice, drive impactful product work, and scale influence by leading a team of UX writers.

Responsibilities

• Establish a roadmap for language, content, voice and tone, and content strategy across the security space to ensure a cohesive and user-centered experience.
• Partner with other UX leaders in reviews, defining priorities, and engaging with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Propose, plan, and lead cross-functional workshops and presentations.
• Define the essential questions to inform security writing through content-centered UX research.
• Scale the security practice through frameworks, world lists, style guides, content governance standards, information architecture, and tone mapping.
