Optical Networking Engineer

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.

• Experience working with Python, Go, C++, or a similar software language.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with optical transport systems (e.g., metro and long-haul dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems).
• Experience developing software for managing networks.

Responsibilities

• Develop network architectures and define requirements for scaling the transport network in a cost-efficient and operationally streamlined manner.
• Investigate long-term technology trends and work with the vendor ecosystem to nurture innovations and create a path for implementation in Google’s network.
• Work with external optical component, subsystem and system vendors, and qualify promising technologies for deployment in Google’s Global Network.
• Develop tools, processes, and workflows for automation of configuration, operations, troubleshooting, and network health reporting.
