Principal Engineer, Site Reliability Engineering, Core Networking

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Experience leading and implementing engineering projects at an executive level within multinational organizations.

• Experience with large-scale system design, algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis and software design.

• Experience working with automation in critical production environments, ensuring their reliability.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience leading large, fast-paced and dynamic engineering teams.
• Experience defining system and/or process requirements for large-scale systems.
• Experience developing and implementing technical programs in network deployment/engineering, product design, network content delivery or data center networking.
• Deep understanding of data networks and supporting product features, services and technologies.
• Capable of technical deep-dives into code, networking, operating systems and storage.

As a Principal Engineer for Core Networking Site Reliability Engineering, you will provide executive level technical leadership for a large organization that is responsible for reliable operation, engineering and evolution of Google's internet facing Wide Area Network (WAN), intra data center WAN, Campus, and Metros to build the next generation of Google networking. You will have the opportunity to create the reality of a near-infinitely scalable Google network for Cloud and Google services, while balancing feature velocity with reliability with cost efficiency and partnering with a wide and diverse array of teams working in the Networking space.

Responsibilities

• Create and lead innovative programs, software, and analytics that drive improvements to the availability, scalability, efficiency, and latency of Google networking.
• Work in close partnership with product leads across multiple areas, on technologies up and down Google's tall and deep stack to build fast, reliable and durable production systems.
• Collaborate with teams building Google’s hardware and data centers.
• Work in tandem with Directors and VPs to define and execute technical strategy and arbitrate technical processes and decisions.
• Lead and grow a team of talented Site Reliability Engineers.
