Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
3 years of experience in threat modeling, data anonymization and classification, auditing access to data, and review of requests for data access.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience in one or more general-purpose languages and the software development lifecycle.
Knowledge of Android OS and location technologies.
Understanding and history of applying research to real world problems.
Understanding of technical privacy issues (e.g., encryption, permissions).
Familiarity with cellular location and technologies (e.g., LTE and 5G), inertial navigation, global navigation satellite systems such as GPS, Galileo, a space-based global navigation satellite system (GLONASS), etc., WiFi, Bluetooth, Ultrawideband, Privacy technologies (e.g., federated learning and differential privacy).
Ability to communicate across disciplines (e.g. engineering, legal, policy).
The Android Privacy team is responsible for privacy design reviews, feature development, and strategy, data governance, and policy across the Android platform. This role will focus specifically on location technologies.
Google's Privacy Engineers work to create great products that provide great benefit to consumers and at the same time treat their data respectfully, with transparency, and in line with reasonable practices. You will work closely with Product teams on privacy design throughout the product lifecycle.
We work on protecting users on our platforms and products and in promoting privacy-enhancing design. We range from back-end and front-end experts and work cross-functionally with Product Strategy teams (e.g., Engineering, Legal, Policy, Developer Relations) and partners (e.g., device manufacturers, and third-party developers).
Guide Engineering teams during product development to ensure that their data collection and usage practices are transparent, protect user privacy, and mitigate risk.
Respond to privacy incidents, if they occur, including collecting information on scope and root cause and managing remediation.
Conduct technical and policy reviews to identify and escalate potential privacy concerns.
Lead and manage proactive development of privacy features and tools throughout the product design and release process.
Develop internal and external policies.
