Senior Product Design Engineer, Nest Home Display

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• 5 years of experience with consumer product design.

• Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools and mechanical simulation tools.

• Experience with mechanical design of plastic and metal components, printed circuit boards (PCB), flexible printed circuits (FPC), and acoustics used in consumer products.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10 years of experience with consumer electronics product design.
• Experience with consumer product development, collaborating cross-functionally with industrial design, electrical engineering, and manufacturing operations teams.
• Experience with electromechanical assemblies (e.g., LCD/OLED displays, batteries, sensors, FPC’s, PCB’s, antennas, buttons, etc.).
• Experience with electromechanical assemblies, manufacturing techniques, and fabrication techniques, including rapid prototyping.
• Experience with Unigraphics NX and/or Teamcenter with proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing creation, tolerance analysis, and structural finite element analysis.

As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you use your creativity and diverse range of engineering experience to explore solutions to a variety of engineering problems. As a mechanical engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to see parts through to manufacture.

As a Product Design Engineer, you will work on a team that balances these in an innovative and harmonious design that complements and enables the technology. You will work in a number of areas including designing enclosures, mechanisms, circuit boards, connectors, and modules. You will work closely with cross-functional teams in Operations, Industrial Design, human factors, Product, and Engineering to define and deliver products.

The Google Nest team focuses on hardware, software, and services for the home, ranging from Nest thermostats to Nest smart displays. The Google Nest team develops, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Responsibilities

• Manage the subsystem and/or individual consumer electronics part designs from concept to production.
• Work with global manufacturing suppliers and partners of subsystems, and drive individual part design from concept to production.
• Build and troubleshoot prototypes, analyze results of reliability testing, iteratively improve the design, and bring to production.
• Create and publish detailed 3D CAD and 2D drawings for your design models, search out and select materials, components, and sub-systems for the products you launch.
• Design for function, reliability, human factors, manufacturability, and cosmetic requirements.
