Software Engineer III, System Simulation

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

• 2 years of experience with software development in C, C++, and/or Go, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.

• 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.

• Experience building tools, automation, and tests required to ship quality software.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
• 2 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.
• Experience developing accessible technologies.
• Experience with systems (e.g., PCI, memory management, data movement, etc.).
• Experience with simulation (e.g. QEMU) and virtualization (e.g., KVM, Virtual Machines).
• Experience in computer architecture (e.g., chips, storage, servers networking, etc.).

Platforms Engineering performs research, design, and development for the hardware, software, and networking technologies that power Google's products and services. Platforms offers impactful projects at every level of the technology stack, from the chip level to massive distributed systems design and software development.

The System Modeling team’s mission is to accelerate system development. We build software simulation and modeling infrastructure for programs across cloud. Our targets include ML supercomputers, smart NICs, server SoCs, and disaggregated architectures. Our team is experienced with system software, computer architecture, toolchains, etc. We build infrastructure that lowers the barrier to using simulation for everyone. We have massive, scalable impact by enabling Google to launch systems faster, beating the end of Moore's Law, and gaining strategic cloud advantages.

Responsibilities

• Write clean, modular and performant C++, C, and/or Go.
• Build components and infrastructure that make simulation fast and easy.
• Understand the target platform end-to-end for software and hardware.
• Decide what to model, how to model it and at what fidelity.
• Get feedback and requirements from users and suggest improvements.
