Staff Software Engineer, Embedded Systems, Fuchsia

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

• 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.

• 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

• Experience bringing up SoCs or developing Linux board support packages (BSPs).

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 5 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, and/or cross-business projects.
• Experience with operating system/kernel programming and writing drivers or equivalent systems.
• Experience with Linux, Windows, QNX, or equivalent systems.

About the job

The Fuchsia Product Software team works with our hardware partners to bring Fuchsia-powered products to life. We manage everything from bringing up SoCs and writing drivers to building hardware test tools and debugging hardware problems.

Fuchsia's modular design presents opportunities for system-on-chip (SoC) developers to create board support packages (BSPs) that combine Fuchsia's updatability and security with the flexibility vendors are accustomed to with traditional Linux solutions.

In this role, you will lead and help develop the Fuchsia BSP Toolkit that will help us scale Fuchsia's hardware support by unlocking the ability of third-parties to bring up and support Fuchsia on boards powered by a variety of SoCs.

Fuchsia is a modern, open source operating system that is simple, secure, updatable, and performant. It’s a general purpose OS, designed to power a diverse ecosystem of hardware and software, and provides core operating system functions like system resource management, a driver framework, and software abstractions.

(Colorado only*) Minimum full-time salary range between $168,000 - $181,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. *Note: Disclosure as required by sb19-085 (8-5-20) of the minimum salary compensation for this role when being hired into our offices in Colorado.

Responsibilities

• Design, guide, and vet systems designs within the scope of the broader area, and write product or system development code to solve problems.
• Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
• Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
• Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
• Scope, design and deliver a Fuchsia BSP Toolkit solution.
