Staff Software Engineer, Performance, Android Automotive OS

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

• 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.

• 5 years of experience testing and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

• Experience with performance optimization, evaluation and analysis, and Android OS development.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 5 years of experience with performance, large scale systems data analysis, visualization tools, and/or debugging.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, and/or cross-business projects.
• Experience working with two or more of the following development areas (e.g., Android, Android platform, Linux kernel, Linux System, System Programming, Performance Analysis).
• System-level experience or familiarity with low-level systems interacting with hardware.

As a Performance Staff Software Engineer on the Android Automotive Partner Engineering team, you'll be at the forefront of the automotive industry, ensuring cars launch with Android Automotive OS that is the simplest and safest way to stay connected, productive, and entertained in the car.

Performance and stability of the platform is critical for driving use cases for both safety and user experience. In this role, you will be responsible for enhancing the performance of our Google Automotive Services (GAS) original equipment manufacturer (OEM) platforms in collaboration with SoC vendors, car manufacturers, and numerous internal teams.

You will work closely with external partners and internal teams to serve as the representative of the automotive industry, and help steer the direction of Google's architecture and codebase while balancing the unique partner implementation details. You'll proactively identify gaps and potential issues, drive solutions, and then scale these solutions to the entire automotive industry.

The Android Auto team collaborate with vehicle manufacturers to develop and deliver on this massive opportunity, building on a proven embedded platform to create a leading Assistant-powered, navigation, entertainment, and communication vehicle system, which will be delivered to specialized people-moving devices.

Responsibilities

• Lead performance analysis and optimization for all Android Automotive OS programs.
• Collaborate with Android Systems Engineering teams on performance tools and optimizations, responsible for landing system improvements in production programs.
• Define and own performance KPIs for all Google Automotive Services OEM Programs.
• Work closely with Android Engineering teams, OEM Partners, Tier 1's and SoC ecosystem to ensure Android Automotive OS enabled systems remain performant over multiple OS updates.
• Define and evolve performance expectations and hardware requirements as the automotive industry continues to adopt the next generation of infotainment systems architectures.
