Staff Software Engineer, Wear OS Companion, Android

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

• 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.

• 5 years of experience testing and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 5 years of experience with performance, large scale systems data analysis, visualization tools, and/or debugging.
• 5 years of experience with Android application development.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, and/or cross-business projects.

The Wear OS Android Companion is used to set up Wear OS Smartwatches, customize their experience, and troubleshoot issues should they arise. It supports key watch features by syncing things like notifications, media, calls, and many others. We work closely with external partners, as well as internal teams to build out the next-generation of smartwatch experiences. Our goal is to not just create a well polished and robust app, but also enable Wear OS to scale to new partners.

Responsibilities

• Design and build Wear OS Android Companion app experiences from the ground up, with the focus to scale the platform.
• Collaborate with Product Management/UX to build beautiful next-generation features and UI.
• Design and build application programming interfaces (APIs) to be used by external developers.
• Collaborate with watch-focused teams to determine APIs for watch to phone communication.
• Help set the technical direction for the Companion and Wear.
