    023332 Senior Manager, Decarbonization Strategy and Program Management (Open)

    Job Description:

    Responsible for contributing expert-level knowledge in the planning and implementation of policies and programs that support the organization’s overall operational and functional sustainability goals. Proactively identifies business challenges and regulatory issues that impact operational and social sustainability programs and recommends changes, remediation's, and improvements. Solves unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the organization. Contributes to the development of functional sustainability strategy. Leads cross-functional projects with significant and long-term impact. Serves as a mentor to less experienced colleagues.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and oversee Greif’s global climate program. Develop, manage and support the execution of Greif’s climate strategy and roadmap. This involves, but is not limited to:

    • Deliver guidance  

    • Best practice implementation across the globe

    • Management of climate and energy resource repository and direct engagement with markets to support local deployment

    • Provide vision and leadership to drive positive action toward achieving Greif’s decarbonization targets whilst creating business value.

    • Lead and re-energize the Global Climate Team, provide them direction and guidance.

    • Identify and implement projects to decarbonize our operations working closely with facilities around the world.

    • Foster strong relationships with external partners including governments, NGOs, for-profit organizations, consortiums, and brands, in service of advancing and scaling our public commitments and monitoring emerging trends around climate change.

    • Closely work with our global key customers to understand their requirements and expectations, implement projects that will help decarbonize our value chain and help meet shared climate targets.

    • Deliver annual greenhouse gas (GHG) measurement/progress tracking and facilitate improvements around data collection, verification, and reporting.

    • Work with the business units to ensure resiliency to transition and physical risks.

    • Partner with the Supply Chain team to ensure key contracted manufacturing partners and suppliers are driving carbon reductions and climate commitments in support of Greif’s 2030 goals. This includes partnering with our suppliers to help them along their journey towards meaningful climate goals.

    • Partner with the Innovation team to design-in climate-friendly products, processes and services.

    • Engage colleague resource groups (CRGs) to create change agents in the company to help raise awareness on climate change and accelerate decarbonization efforts.

    Education & Experience

    • Possesses a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in a sustainability related field (e.g., energy, climate change, engineering, environmental science, environmental economics, sustainability).

    • 10+ years of demonstrated technical experience leading, designing, and/or evaluating projects and programs that promote decarbonization. These might include renewable energy, energy efficiency,  electric vehicles etc. and LCA/techno-economic analysis is a plus.

    • Experience managing programs and engaging stakeholders.

    • Experience related to climate science, greenhouse gas inventories, renewable energy, energy markets, green building, finance, sustainability-related marketing and other environmental focus areas, including regulatory issues

    • Management experience should include multi-country project management and successful oversight of project teams with complex delivery objectives.

    • Familiarity with a wide range of clean energy strategies, including their appropriateness in various types of low resource settings.

    • Experience developing and implementing a long-term carbon reduction roadmap. Hands-on experience successfully leading meaningful carbon reduction within a global company is a significant plus.

    • Preferably experience in the paper packaging industry

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Strong working knowledge and experience in a wide range of technologies associated with energy efficiency and renewable energy.
    • In-depth understanding of global GHG Protocols and science-based GHG reduction methodologies (SBTi).
    • Knowledge of various reporting standards (CDP, DJSI, TCFD, SASB).
    • Demonstrated capabilities and substantial experience in driving projects/programs within business-and/or product development utilizing a structured approach.
    • Outstanding organizational and interpersonal, communication and leadership skills and demonstrated ability to work collegially with others with the highest standards of integrity. Must be able to work with many different departments within the organization with a demonstrated ability to create relationships and facilitate work across company functions.
    • Strong business acumen – ability to define problems and translate findings into a clear business case with tangible analysis. Applies a solid understanding of Greif's financial systems and business models to prioritize the team’s work, while helping refine future business opportunities.
    • Customer obsession – puts the customer first in the way we design, innovate, and develop our climate vision.
    • Is an excellent communicator, at all levels; able to distill complex inter-related disciplines into brief, impactful, and convincing arguments.
