    Our International Commercial Lines team is currently seeking a Senior International Underwriter to join our growing team.  Remote candidates will be considered.

    Position summary:

    Reporting directly to the Head of International, this position is primarily responsible for the management, facilitation and coordination of the entire pre and post-sale count activity with our international network partner(s) in support of our Controlled Master Program business. This role will have accountability for the bordereaux intake and business processes that support other internal function areas for the assumed reinsurance function within Hanover. The role will underwrite and support the writing of international business. This is to be accomplished through the building off of and the execution of currently developed workflows and processing along with taking the lead role to ensure smooth transactional interactions and local placements with our network partner(s). Successfully collaborate with Hanover domestic business units as well as agent/broker partners to profitably underwrite and provide total global solutions to Hanover customers.

    This role will support the positioning of Hanover as a full capability provider to our Partner agents. This will be accomplished by assisting with improvements to our current Global capabilities and ongoing development of business procedures for the servicing of Controlled Master Program business that differentiate Hanover from competitors.

    This is a Full-time, Exempt role.

    Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

    • Admitted Business: Manage the administration, implementation and ongoing servicing of Controlled Master Program business.

    • Admitted Business: Assist in minimizing impact on operations, workflow, and other functional area with implementing global program business, manage the placement of locally compliant placements with our global network and execute best practices for implementation.

    • Building Relationships: Build both internal and external relationships with field underwriting personnel and key network partners to foster a strong partnership with network carriers.

    • Underwriting: Responsible for the underwriting and pricing of Controlled Master Program business and GlobalReach business.

    • The individual filling this position will work independently, utilizing their acquired skills and industry knowledge to help Hanover develop a strategic positioning of admitted and non -admitted International capabilities.

    • The individual will be expected to exercise keen judgment when interacting with internal and external customers as the Hanover’s reputation and institutional knowledge will be on display.

    • The individual is expected to make informed and well thought out decisions on best approaches for Hanover to pursue, as well as maintain a strong partnership with the network in order to enhance the Hanover’s capabilities and reputation.

    • The individual must be self-motivated, highly organized, respected within the insurance community for their exhibited expertise and adept at evaluating alternatives and coming to fact based conclusions.

    Position Requirements:

    • 5+ years of active experience in handling International coverage for a major insurance company.
    • Ability to understand and establish corporate strategic thinking and programs.
    • Ability to interact with Senior Level executives.
    • Experience with and understanding of International Insurance requirements.
    • Experience in placing admitted insurance and working with foreign insurers.
    • Understanding of internal workings of foreign insurance placements – i.e. reinsurance implications, financial/currency implications, workflow/operational impacts, agency/customer implication.
