Senior Investment Accountant

Our Accounting department is seeking a Senior Investment Accountant to join our growing team in Worcester, MA. 

Position summary: A Senior Accountant on the Investment Accounting Department supports the Opus Investment Management division to properly account for and report on the investment portfolios of The Hanover Insurance Group and its various external investment management clients. Opus Investment Management is a registered SEC advisor with over $12 billion of assets under management.

This is a Full-time, Exempt role.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

• Ensures the accurate, timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close cycles for complex investment accounting by effectively planning, monitoring, and problem solving.
• Contributes to the completion of the investment accounting of financial transactions ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting regulations.
• Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare complex journal entries and reconciliations and/or performs detail review of simple to moderately complex journal entries or reconciliations.
• Responsible for preparation of roll forwards and documenting the accounting for key non-routine business transactions.
• Independently prepares and analyzes complex financial statements, footnotes for Statutory and GAAP reporting.
• Requires knowledge of accounting concepts and applications to difficult assignments
• Be responsible for accurate and timely custody communication and processing. Work effectively on multiple assignments simultaneously across several departments, many with short turnaround times.
• May assist manager with audit process and communicating answers to internal and external auditors
• Support of the team’s internal controls surrounding the collection and reporting financial information (Sarbanes-Oxley key controls)

Position Requirements:

• 3-6 years of related experience
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent work experience
• CPA or MBA preferred
• Understands and applies financial and accounting principles to analyze financial results, track budgets, set pricing and rates, and report financials
• Fosters an environment where individuals collaborate in pursuit of a common goal internally and externally to the team
