Meets with clients and daily communications with claims professionals to resolve disputes in an expeditious and efficient manner
Answers and develops theories and affirmative defenses, and conducts evaluations of case files
Engages in routine motion practice, discovery, and research
Handles depositions, hearings, conferences, and Trials
Negotiates resolutions of disputes
Travels to the boards/courts as required
What you need to apply:
Minimum 4 years of workers' compensation defense litigation experience
Experience or willingness to learn PIP litigation or other defense litigation
Must have a valid driver's license, an acceptable MVR and an ability to maintain confidentiality
Admitted to the New Jersey bar; license in Pennsylvania and/or New York or willingness to be licensed in other jurisdiction desired.
Able to work in a team environment with other attorneys, adjusters and other claims professionals and support staff
Advocacy Skills: Has the knowledge and ability to assist, defend or plead for another
Communication Skills: Has a knowledge and ability to deliberately and precisely exchange thoughts and opinions with one or more persons and to effectively translate legal language and ideas into layman's terms, and to do so professionally and in line with The Hanover's CARE Values.
Negotiation Skills: Consistently influences outcomes through demonstration of effective negotiation techniques
Organization Skills: Must have the ability to categorize and prioritize work and information to effectively maximize productivity
Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Lexis/Westlaw, and daily management of e-mail and calendar
Investigative Skills: Has an ability to follow up step by step on inquiry or observation; to trace or track, search or examine with care and accuracy. Specifically, must take evidence that may be used in reaching a legal conclusion
Legal Research: Must demonstrate the ability to locate cases, treaties, codified laws and statutes aimed at the discovery and interpretation of law and to draw a reasonable and accurate conclusion or render an opinion there from
Courtroom Skills: H as the ability to effectively present evidence and arguments of law to a judge or jury for determination of the facts at issue. Has appropriate behavior and decorum and is familiar with the rules and regulations that govern proceedings and conduct in courts of law or other legal forums and tribunals.

Willingness to engage in continuing education to obtain knowledge of current and future practices, trends, cases, legislation, etc. and willingness and ability to mentor and/or teach others.
