Automation Design Engineer

Job Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test automated manufacturing systems, including robotic cells, assembly lines, and material handling equipment, utilizing CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., manufacturing, process engineering, production) to identify automation opportunities and define project requirements.
• Develop detailed electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics and documentation for automation systems.
• Select and integrate appropriate sensors, actuators, PLCs, HMI devices, and other control components.
• Program and troubleshoot PLCs (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens) and robotic systems (e.g., Fanuc, Kuka, Universal Robots).
• Conduct simulations and analyses to validate automation designs and optimize system performance.
• Participate in the installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement of automated equipment on the production floor.
• Provide technical support and training to manufacturing personnel on automated systems.
• Stay abreast of new technologies and industry trends in automation and robotics to propose innovative solutions.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant safety standards and regulations.

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in automation design, development, and implementation within a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for mechanical and electrical design.
• Knowledge of PLC programming and HMI development.
• Strong knowledge with industrial robotics programming and integration (e.g., Fanuc, Kuka, Universal Robots).
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
• Understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex automation issues.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently.
• Experience with vision systems and machine learning applications in automation is a plus.
