Position summary

Robotics & Digital Solutions, part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting for a Director, Electrical Engineering, to lead an advanced team designing and developing engineering solutions across our Ottava surgical robotic platform. This role is located in Santa Clara, CA. The Hardware Team is a diverse group of engineers who are passionate about crafting and developing the next generation surgical robotic systems for minimally invasive surgery and endoluminal applications. Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated individual to lead the Electrical & FPGA team on the Ottava surgical robotic platform. You will lead a medium size team responsible for PCA design, test and FPGA development for our world-class surgical robotic system. A successful candidate will demonstrate inspirational leadership, mentorship at various career levels, and will ensure design practices and standards are met throughout the design and development process. This position will also require attention to design testing & validation, technical peer reviews, hiring and strong coordination across cross-functional teams within and outside of R&D. Core Job Responsibilities: Lead the design, development, and test readiness of all capital equipment electrical sub-systems. Manage a team responsible for FPGA design and development for the product across various applications. Ensure consistent design practices are followed that meet standards of quality, production readiness, and reliability. Drive team excellence through demonstrated actions, excellent documentation, technical reviews, and low-level verification of design. Demonstrate outstanding leadership skills, mentor engineers and managers for future growth, drive team culture and collaboration. Manage a team of individual contributors, managers, and contractors while ensuring alignment with partners in supply chain, document control, quality, and other engineering teams. Define and supervise budgets of the department and grow the team when applicable. Drive continuous improvement in process where beneficial. Qualifications Bachelor's/Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with 15+(BS) or 12+ (MS) years of related experience required. Degrees in applicable fields considered. Prior experience in leading teams in medical device and technology/good understanding of medical capital equipment. Candidate shall have a deep knowledge in electrical engineering design, CAD tools (such as Altium), and fabrication, assembly, and test processes. Practical experience in the design and commercialization of complex electromechanical products, including several of the following: drive systems, actuation & motor control, gearing, robotic systems, sensing, and embedded systems. Proven track-record motivating design teams through all phases of product development (concept through launch/sustaining). Ability to effectively communicate fluidly across technical domains. Ability to work in a regulated environment in compliance to ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820.
