Key Responsibilities: Provide local scientific leadership for in vivo partnerships with therapeutic/functional area in vivo researcher teams. Serve as a local in vivo scientific expert for the Janssen discovery portfolio, including being able to translate pharmacology outcomes into planning for safety related studies. Establish collaborative research projects with in vivo scientists in support of drug discovery (e.g., animal model development or improvement), including contributing to the study design, execution, and data analysis/interpretation. Liaison with local IVS animal care & research support staff who provide scientific support to local in vivo research teams. Provide in vivo pharmacology and disease model expertise across multiple projects within our drug discovery portfolio. Interact with in vivo scientists to understand their in vivo research needs, engaging them in a flexible and constructive manner to address matters of ethical review with a focus on 3Rs, humane endpoints, and avoidance of adverse effects. Develop animal welfare & 3Rs related in vivo projects, including serving as a visible champion for the 3Rs in study design and execution. In partnership with the local IVS Site Lead and IVS Global Head, assist in the development of the IVS Global Strategy for In Vivo Models & Scientific Collaborations for the local in-house vivarium ensuring alignment with overall departmental and organizational goals. Provide scientific mentorship, professional development, guidance and leadership to junior scientists and/or postdoctoral candidates. Build and maintain a strong scientific reputation by publishing novel research in peer reviewed journals and presenting data at scientific meetings. Regularly read, understand, and follow-through on all correspondence Qualifications Education: Master's in science or other advanced degree required Minimum of three (3) years of scientific experience, including demonstrated scientific and technical expertise in rodent and/or nonrodent animal models Strong scientific knowledge and proven track record of delivery Experience and Skills: Required: Demonstrated understanding and established level of expertise evaluating preclinical models is required Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Compliance and working knowledge of applicable USDA, FDA, GLPs, GMPs, applicable animal welfare guidelines, and AAALAC requirements Some “off-core business hours” meeting participation and work required Preferred: DVM or Ph.D. highly preferred Understanding of the overall process of drug discovery and development is preferred Major biotech/pharma experience preferred At Johnson & Johnson, we’re on a mission to change the trajectory of health for humanity.
