The Preclinical Sciences and Translational Safety (PSTS) Molecular Pathology group within Johnson & Johnson Research and Development is recruiting for a summer intern located in San Diego, CA.
In this role, the intern will be provided hands-on experience with assay development, fluorescent immunohistochemistry, tissue culture and image analysis. The project aim is to develop a multiplex fluorescent immunohistochemistry (FIHC) assay on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissues (FFPE) to support different functions at Johnson & Johnson Research and Development. The project will entail a literature and database search to find antibodies and markers, optimization of assay conditions, and image analysis using HALO software.
Education:
• Undergraduate student studying Biology, Biochemistry or Biotechnology
Experience and Skills:
Required :
• Basic laboratory skills including making dilutions from stock solutions
• Experience working with Microsoft excel and PowerPoint
• Open minded and willing to learn about immunohistochemistry and other histological techniques
Preferred:
• Knowledge of immunohistochemistry and tissue culture is a plus
• Knowledge of histology is a plus
• Tissue culture experience
• Creative problem-solving
Key Responsibilities:
• Craft and develop a multiplex fluorescent immunohistochemistry assay
• Image analysis using HALO software
• Provide experimental and workflow updates in oral and written communications
• Design, implement, and troubleshoot experimentation to validate hypotheses
• Demonstrate independent problem solving and detailed data-driven experimental design
