Janssen Inc. is looking to fill a Law Clerk position in our Legal Department located in Toronto, Ontario. The Law Clerk contributes to the achievement of key business priorities by providing proactive and professional support to the Law Department and its business partners in accomplishing the strategic legal priorities of Janssen in Canada. This includes supporting the Canadian business on legal issues related to compliance and general commercial matters; as well as drafting and negotiating contracts under the direction of the VP Law. This position is integral to the Law Department contributing to a very busy and dynamic department within a larger multinational organization. Managing diverse tasks, collaborating closely with different stakeholders, and working under varying timelines are expected of this role. Responsibilities: Compliance Supporting Government Affairs and Access group Supporting Global Clinical Trials group Supporting the Health Care Compliance (HCC) Officer in working with business on HCC contracts and providing support on matters that require HCC oversight Supporting Canadian Privacy Officer on compliance matters relating to privacy issues including reporting on privacy incidents and implementation of CASL initiatives. General Corporate/Commercial Working closely with VP Law on special projects supporting litigation files / legal hold notices supporting internal / external compliance audits Creating and managing template agreements Supporting escalations from procurement contracting services group Reviewing and revising product listing agreements with government payors Supporting review and responses to Requests for Proposals/Quotes (RFP/Qs) Working with, and instructing, colleagues regarding proper use of template agreements Managing internal intranet/filing databases including posting new agreements Working with colleagues, VP Law and/or outside counsel where necessary on review, development and approval of contracts Drafting, and negotiating with other parties and their legal counsel, contracts Conducting and analyzing legal research and making recommendations with respect to, and resolving, complex legal issues Develops both improvements to processes and best practices Other duties as reasonably required to support the Law Department Qualifications Relevant Certificate or Diploma from a recognized Post-secondary College or Institute (Paralegal Licence from the Law Society of Upper Canada or Completion of Law Clerk program accredited by The Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario, or equivalent) 4 to 6 years' of related experience (law firm, in-house legal department or equivalent) Minimum of 4 years of experience drafting and revising contracts Detail and process oriented Demonstrated excellent judgment Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently with limited supervision Demonstrated abilities to work in a fast-paced environment, meet stringent timelines, prioritize work relative to business context, and handle multiple demands simultaneously Highly computer literate, with advanced skills in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and different legal and contracts databases Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) and ability to work with a wide range of people with varying degrees of experience dealing with legal issues Basic contract negotiating skills Bilingualism in English and French would be an asset RFP and 3rd party vendor experience would be an asset BE VITAL in your career.
