The Staff Motor Control Engineer is a key technical contributor to the development of our sophisticated robotic surgical platform - Ottava Robotic System. The primary focus of the position will be developing and improving the fundamental motor control architecture for the performance and safety of our robotic system and subsystems. As an outstanding motor control specialist, you will model, design, implement, test, and benchmark the motor control in our current and future surgical robotic platforms. You will go across the boundary of hardware and software, guiding and working closely with multi-functional engineers to meet our ultimate needs in robotic actuation, including but not limited to performances and safeties in servo motion, torque generation, thermal reduction, system integration, etc. We are looking for a candidate who is flexible, self-motivated, curious and passionate about revolutionizing the world of medical robotics. Key Responsibilities: Technically lead multi-functional engineers, to define and develop motor control architecture for our robotic system and subsystems Provide modeling, analysis, and communicate proposal on motor control solution design and implementation Understand and develop control functionalities, behaviors, and algorithms to meet motor performance and safety needs Lead and accomplish tuning, characterization, testing, benchmarking, and troubleshooting of motor control related tasks Participate in related system integration and manufacturing transfer activities Advance our intellectual properties in motor control area and influence roadmap on future technologies adoption Document relevant design and development Other related duties as may be assigned Qualifications Qualifications A graduate degree (Master's or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Control, or Robotics is required It is required to have one of the following combinations of education and years of related experience; (Related experience is defined as developing sophisticated applications for robotics and electro-mechanical systems) A) PhD with a minimum of 4 years of related experience, OR B) Master's with a minimum of 7 years of related experience Strong fundamentals on electric motor and drive system's analysis, modeling, and control is required Solid capability of linear system modeling and analysis, stability, and control design is required; Modern motor control techniques, such as field-oriented control and direct torque control, are further preferred Proficiency in embedded real-time programming is required Demonstrated hands-on experience of motor drive circuitry analysis and evaluation is required; Experience with various PWM schemes such as space vector, discontinuous, and sinusoidal modulation, including data-acquisition methods, and low-speed control techniques is a huge plus System-level understanding of thermal, torque control, efficiency optimization, and firmware integration for electric drives is preferred Collaborative and self-motivated teammate with excellent communication and documentation skills is required Ability to work in a regulated environment in compliance to ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820 In-depth knowledge in one or more of these areas: noise and vibration, serial manipulator kinematics, robot dynamics, admittance control, impedance control, haptics feedback, thermal analysis, signal processing and sensor technologies, can also be a plus Do you want to be part of a diverse team delivering innovative products to market?
