Janssen Research & Development, LLC, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies is recruiting for a Senior Associate Scientist - Assay Automation within the Laboratory Automation & Robotics team to collaborate in migrating analytical assays from the bench to laboratory automation systems. Janssen Research & Development, LLC is part of the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies. Janssen Biotherapeutics Development and Supply (BTDS) is moving forward with a major strategic investment to build a state-of-the-art, hands-free, automation and robotics laboratory for protein, cell, and gene therapies. The new centralized automation lab will be located in Malvern, PA and will house an ecosystem of integrated workcells and devices connected by mobile robotics, driven by scheduling and lab orchestration software. Once commissioned, this laboratory will deliver a suite of coordinated, integrated, end-to-end automated analytical workflows to enable bioprocess and formulation development. You will utilize scientific and automated liquid handler scripting experience to collaborate with assay development SMEs and end-users to deliver automated workflows for biotherapeutic product development and QC/release analytics. Primary scientific areas of focus will be protein, viral, cell, and gene therapies, automating analytical workflows such as antigen binding, molecular, cell-based, flow cytometry, capillary electrophoresis, chromatography, and peptide mapping. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with Analytical Development and QC Scientists to migrate analytical assays from the bench to various laboratory automated liquid handling platforms (e.g., Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman, Agilent) Configure and script liquid handling workstations such as Tecan Evo/Fluent, Hamilton STAR/Vantage, Agilent Bravo, various dispensers Lead automated methods development, qualification, training, and transfer activities Collaborate with Integration colleagues in developing and deploying end-to-end workcell automation solutions (Driven by Biosero Green Button Go®, HighRes® Biosolutions Cellario, or Thermo Scientific™ Momentum) Optimize automated systems; support technical investigations Collaborate with automation team members to maintain automated systems as needed Knowledge transfer and cross-training Ensure data integrity through accurate and timely data capture/entry into appropriate systems Author protocols, work instructions, SOPs, or presentations Qualifications Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent is required Master's degree is Biology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent is preferred. M.S. with 2 or more years, or B.S. with 4 or more years of laboratory automation experience is preferred Experience and Skills: Required: Experience implementing automated laboratory workflows and high-throughput methods within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry; this includes instrument configuration, liquid handling, and method programming is required Experience programming, operating, and troubleshooting liquid handling platforms or integrated systems, such as Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman Coulter, Agilent is required Ability to identify/understand sophisticated customer needs and help craft automated solutions for laboratory workflows is required Experience with biological or biochemical assays; migration of bench techniques to automated systems is required Strong organizational and interpersonal skills (both written and oral), with the ability to closely collaborate with scientists, vendors, and external teams is required Experience working with multidisciplinary teams is required Preferred: Experience integrating automated assay solutions with electronic data systems (e.g. LIMS, Electronic Lab Notebook) is preferred Experience with various programming languages, such as Python, Visual Basic, C, C++, etc. is preferred Experience with analytical method development is preferred Experience with device integration or automated workcells is preferred At Johnson & Johnson, we’re on a mission to change the trajectory of health for humanity.
