Senior Associate Scientist Formulation

Overall responsibility of the technical support of all activities related to the Antifouling business at Janssen PMP. Technical support at global level of the existing and the new Antifouling business related to Marine Antifouling and Aquaculture. This position will also support the other laboratories and the biological lab in particular outside of the Antifouling activities. The main activities of the Senior Associate Scientist Formulation Anti-Fouling are the following: The Senior Associate Scientist Formulation Anti-Fouling is providing technical support to the Janssen PMP Antifouling team but also to third parties such as research centres and customers. Interaction internally with the Antifouling Product Manager, Sales Managers and technical experts. Performs complex environmental monitoring and experiments. Monitors current scientific literature in key journals. Performs general literature and research searches including analysis and interpretation. Attends seminars, local and regional scientific meetings in associated fields. Presents updates to outside consultants as needed, and at in house team meetings. Writes technical reports and other documents that record data or results. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment, ensures its proper operation; operates analytical and other instruments. Increases PMP knowledge on marine Antifouling paints and coatings Insources capabilities and know-how to produce and evaluate solvent and water based marine Antifouling coatings Develops prototype test coatings in which innovations can be tested and evaluated Develops in-house capabilities for release/leach rate testing of active substances from submersed coatings Provides technical support to innovation Projects and proof-of-principles (POP’s). Interacts with customers and other third parties to increase knowledge on customer needs and discuss the new technical and business opportunities. Builds-up lab capabilities in order to in-house formulate and evaluate test coatings. Establishes network to formulate and evaluate test coatings externally. Fosters strong technical relationships with all stakeholders and the customers The Senior Associate Scientist Formulation Anti-Fouling will also be part of project teams and will act as Core Team Member according to FPX guidelines. Qualifications Preferred profile Master in chemistry or chemical engineering or bachelor in chemistry with proven and relevant experience Experience in formulation chemistry, paints and coatings industry, analytical leach rate testing as well as knowledge of anti-fouling products is an asset Knowledge and hands-on experience of organic analytical techniques and physical characterization techniques of coatings is preferred Willingness to work in the lab and to be in frontline contact with customers, test institutes and co-formulant suppliers Comfortable with designing own experiments, interpreting results, proposing next steps and writing reports.
