Our Senior Development Engineer is responsible for the definition, design, development, and implementation of manufacturing solutions for new product(s) within our Endomechanical franchise. This role will work with internal and external teams to develop advanced surgical instruments and may be responsible for leadership of junior development engineers within the project. Key Responsibilities: Own and deliver the development, process characterization and validation of the (electro) mechanical components and assembly process for new product development (NPD) projects within the Endomechanical franchise. Lead scale-up understanding from Concept to Proof of Principle of engineering unit operations. Ensure successful integration and start-up of manufacturing lines, molds and tooling to yield components and products that meet design specifications. Collaborate with the design team to provide DFX (manufacturing and assembly, cost) input and enable translation of product design inputs to product and process outputs. Collaborate with multi-functional partners for supplier selection, project and product risk management and design & process transfer to manufacturing site(s) on NPD projects. Own the inputs for manufacturing related activities (prototypes, build, tooling and validation) within the NPD project plan. Successfully transfer knowledge to manufacturing of unit operations enabling transition to daily production. Participate in technical design reviews for New products. Qualifications Requirements Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related science/engineering field required; advanced degree preferred Skills & Experience: Required: Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience Experience with process and measurement/gaging system design along with application of statistical analysis techniques to develop a stable and capable manufacturing process Ability to work in ambiguity, prioritize and lead work, and demonstrate ability to independently judge, define, and manage risk in development of manufacturing solutions Ability to effectively collaborate with multiple internal & external partners Preferred: Development and manufacturing experience Experience within medical products/device industry or another highly regulated industry Experience in development of plastics (injection molded), metals and (electro)mechanical components and/or customized semi/automated equipment Experience in Design of Experiments, Root Cause Understanding and application of the Scientific Method Experience with Design for X (Manufacturing & Assembly; Cost) and Risk Mitigation (e.g., FMEA) Experience with managing hardware, software and controls development in relation to manufacturing and test systems is helpful Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification is helpful Project Management certification (e.g., FPX or PMP) is helpful Other: Requires up to 25 % travel, domestic and international Are you interested in exploring the many small-company environments behind the big-company impact of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies?
