    The Sr. Director - Construction Management (SDCM) is an expert and recognized technical authority in the design, construction, safety, quality and startup of facilities. The principal role is to lead all the Construction Management aspects of the LMDS Program and will work with the E&PS Program SPOC to develop and implement the strategies and plans that facilitates safe building design and construction while protecting contractors who construct our facilities. The LMDS Program requires knowledge and technical specialization to recognize and control risks posed by all construction activities and related works and teams in the construction of the site, utilities, manufacturing, warehouses, office and laboratories areas.

    The SDCM must work with leaders in all parts of our business to implement effective solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the overall construction activities of the LMDS Program. The SDCM will work with Project Teams on implementing appropriate contracting strategies, associated contracts and required vendors' expertise to complete construction. The SDCM will lead the project teams in making the most prudent execution and contracting decisions that will drive consistent teamwork and efficiencies in alignment with J&J Legal, Risk Management and Procurement. The SDCM will provide expertise in construction safety, owner/contractor negotiations, change orders, risk management, schedule adherence and contingency utilization and will drive the organization to continuous improvement through ongoing analysis of performance metrics and scorecards, lessons learned, trending data and adjust strategy/execution accordingly.

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead all the Construction Management aspects of the LMDS Program while maintaining global alignment and harmonization with E&PS Engineering, Construction Management, Safety, Quality, Project Delivery and Controls.

    • Lead the selection of appropriate project functions and project resourcing.

    • Lead in the development of strategies for Project Delivery via Project Execution Plan based on the complexity of the project ensuring consistency with business strategy, applicable policies, commitments and goals.

    • Leads collaboration of the Engineering Groups across other functional areas, establishing effective working relationships with all Business Partners.

    • Partner with the E&PS Sr. Director Strategic Projects Delivery in the Alignment of the Sponsor, Key Partners, Core and Extended team to define and align on the Final Project Objectives.

    • Leads the development and reporting of Key Performance Indicators and ensure they are met by developing and performing the adequate action plans.

    • Leads communication via E&PS Program SPOC to Program Executive, Sponsors and Key Partners on all aspects of the program and maintain strong internal project communications.

    • Leads the coordination of the design, construction and close out activities including leading internal resources and the procurement of third-party contractors, suppliers and consultants and ensures the project remains on schedule and budget to deliver the Final Project Objectives.

    • Responsible for safety, scope management, contract and construction management, legal and corporate compliance, quality, project controls, commissioning and qualification.

    • Support Operational Readiness, Process Validation and Technology Transfer activities up to approval by the applicable regulatory agencies (ie. FDA).

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management from an accredited institution required

    • Master's Degree preferred

    • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent required

    Experience and Skills:

    Required:

    • Minimum of 14 years of relative business experience and project, construction and operations management.

    • Prior experience leading complex "MEGA" capital construction projects (larger than $500MM), specifically in the Large Molecule Drug Substance Pharmaceutical industry, including Upstream and Downstream Processing, Clean Utilities, Process Automation, Cleaning (CIP), Sterilization (SIP) and other required support systems.

    • Track record of developing and maintaining highly collaborative partnerships at all levels within the organization including Internal (Real Estate, Engineering, and Facilities Management) and external (Procurement, Process Engineering, Finance and Operations).

    • Full working understanding of Project Controls, specifically in cost and integrated schedule development, financial assessments and detailed control of cost and schedule.

    • Manufacturing experience in FDA or other regulated environments from design through commercial startup.

    • Full knowledge on contracting and a skilled negotiator.

    • Proficient in Microsoft applications (ie. Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft Project and PowerPoint).

    Preferred:

    • LEED AP certification highly desirable

    • Knowledge of J&J Project Delivery principles and processes

    Other:

    • 50% travel is required.

    The anticipated base pay range for this position is $163,000 to $282,900.

    The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

      • Vacation - up to 120 hours per calendar year

      • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington - up to 56 hours per calendar year

      • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays - up to 13 days per calendar year of Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
