Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies is recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer, Systems Repair Team, within our Robotics & Digital Solutions organization. The location for this position is Santa Clara, CA! Robotics and Digital Solutions, is part of Johnson & Johnson Med Tech. At Johnson & Johnson Robotics and Digital Solutions, we’re changing the trajectory of health for humanity, using robotics to enhance healthcare providers’ abilities and improve patients’ diagnoses, treatments, and recovery times. Johnson & Johnson Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Flexible Robotics (MONARCH®), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA™), and Digital Solutions. Join our collaborative, rapidly growing teams in the San Francisco Bay Area (Redwood City and Santa Clara), Cincinnati, and Seattle. You’ll collaborate on breakthrough medical technologies that unite multiple subject areas to build a connected digital ecosystem that advances medical professionals’ skills and improves patient outcomes. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work with other members of the Research & Development Hardware team to support the troubleshooting, root cause analysis and drive issue resolution for sophisticated mechanisms, structural but lightweight assemblies, motor driven actuators, and motion transmissions. You will provide mechanical engineering expertise, assisting System Repair members root cause & solve mechanical failures within our Robotics System. This role is responsible for supporting root cause analysis and driving resolution of issues. Additionally, the Engineer coordinates the production and refinement of repair process instructions for the robotic system. In collaboration with the Manufacturing Team, you will assist in refining manufacturing test instructions with feedback from Repair Team members. This includes reviewing and updating as needed conceptual and detailed CAD design, drawings, related documentation, and design specifications. Key team members include hardware engineering, robot controls, system integration, testing, software, and internal manufacturing groups. As a member of the R&D Engineering Team, you will contribute to the development of a sophisticated robotic medical platform. Job Responsibilities: Provide sophisticated mechanical engineering support to System Repair: root cause analysis of system failure, solving mechanical failures, refinement of manufacturing, repair, and testing instructions. Provide hands-on troubleshooting, process, and manufacturing assistance in support of a rapid development cycle. Lead the development, production, and refinement of Repair Process Instructions. Work to ensure we design safe, robust, and reliable solutions applying engineering methods with good documentation processes and releasing design documentation through an ECO process. Ability and willingness to work through all phases of product development from conceptualization to production. Must be capable of working independently and in cross departmental engineering teams. Qualifications Required: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field 5 years proven experience designing and building mechanisms and assemblies in a highly regulated industry (Medical Device, Automotive, Aviation, Aerospace, Oil/Gas and/or Pharmaceuticals) Demonstrated excellence in mechanisms and knowledge of various types of motors, encoders, sensors, and drivetrain-related components such as gears, lead screws, splines, cams, linear guides, belts & pulleys Mechanical analysis experience including statics, dynamics, kinematics, strength of materials and stress analysis Ability to perform basic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Experience and proficiency using CAD to design and document both large and small parts and assemblies Proven experience of designing for manufacturability and understanding of common manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, casting, injection molding, and 3D printing Capable of making drawings following standard methodologies from AMSE Y14.5-2009 Dimensioning and Tolerancing Experience working with vendors to select, source, quote, and procure off the shelf and custom designed components Basic knowledge of working in an ISO and FDA regulated environment Consistent track record working well in a team environment, learning from others, as well as mentoring and coaching more junior team members Ability to work at the Santa Clara, CA site Ability to travel up to 10% Preferred: Advanced Degree Experience working on instrumentation automation and using scripting languages such as Python, Shell, Batch, Bash or Linux commands SolidWorks experience Background in robotics or medical capital equipment Primary Location United States-California-Santa Clara-5490 Great America Pkwy Organization Auris Health, Inc.
