Janssen Research & Development, LLC is part of the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies. The Infectious Diseases Discovery group at Janssen Biopharma Inc. is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Scientist to lead nonclinical microbiology studies to support IND submissions for novel antibacterial therapeutic agents. You will be an integral part of a diverse global team of scientists focusing on small and large molecule antibacterial research and will be responsible for scientific leadership to design and execute critical project plans. Key Responsibilities: Design and execute microbiological studies including susceptibility testing, resistance assessment, time kill kinetics and target identification Lead a team of laboratory scientists responsible for microbiological studies Develop and optimize various microbiological functional assays to test drug substance activity Design and implement complex experimental approaches in support of early and late stage discovery in collaboration with discovery team. Comfort with genomic understanding of bacterial resistance mechanisms Manage workflows associated with in vitro testing with clinical strains including qPCR Manage outsourced projects when needed to accelerate development timelines Work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed research environment Clearly communicate results and recommendations with team both in-person and online Contributing to scientific literature and conferences through publication and presentation of results Qualifications Required: Ph.D. Degree in microbiology, molecular biology, genomics, microbiology, or similar 3+ years of relevant experience preferably in biotech or pharma with experience in microbiology and preclinical product development Deep subject matter expertise in microbiology with proof of experience in the field Deep expertise in the microbiology and bacterial therapeutic assessments Familiarity with sample-handling to generate high-throughput microbiologial data Attentive to detail, analytical, and process-driven with ability to operate in a complex or matrixed work environment Ability to establish and meet deliverables and timelines At Johnson & Johnson, we’re on a mission to change the trajectory of health for humanity.
