The Staff Engineer will be making a significant contribution to the New Product Development (NPD) pipeline and redefining patient care through innovation. Our Development Engineers are a critical resource within NPD teams, developing robust component designs and manufacturing processes that meet or exceed all product requirements at the lowest possible manufacturing cost. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver innovation in the growing Catheter franchise. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in a wide range of tasks assigned in related fields. Takes decisions about problems and methods of engineering independently; represents the organization in conferences to solve important questions and to plan and coordinate work. Requires the use of advanced techniques, work. Requires the use of advanced techniques, as well as the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of his/her branch, sciences and related disciplines. Consults with supervisors about existing problems and development issues as they arise. Plans, coordinates, and manages an important engineering Project, or a reduced number of projects with complex characteristics. Lead the design, development, qualification, and stabilization of component (metal, plastic, electrical or other) and process solutions. Own process development, qualification, and control for component and assembly solutions. Serve as an integral part of NPD teams on Design for Manufacturing/Assembly/ Cost and drive robust product and process development that meets business commitments and stabilization metrics. Design and develop robust equipment, tooling, and manufacturing processes to meet product requirements in compliance with User requirements, Quality, Regulatory, Safety and Ergonomic standards. Incorporate risk mitigation methodology to drive process stability and capability. Identify and implement standard methodologies of project management through component development. Responsible for developing new manufacturing and assembly processes consistent with Design for Manufacturability for new product introductions. Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level. Responsible for ensuring personnel and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures. Performs other duties assigned as needed Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering, combined with at least 6 years work-related engineering experience is required or a Master’s degree, preferably in Engineering, combined with at least 4 years work-related engineering experience is required Prior experience in New Product Development, working in a team environment is required Previous experience in the areas of Design for Manufacturing or Assembly is required Experience working closely with external suppliers is required Experience with Measurement Systems Analysis (i.e., GR&R) is required Statistical Analysis knowledge (i.e., Design of Experiments, Process Stability/Control/Capability) is required Knowledge of good manufacturing practices and documentation, preferably in the medical industry is required Ability to read, interpret, redline, and make recommendations on engineering drawings is required Knowledge of various manufacturing processes to make metal, plastic and/or electrical components is required Experience in a medical device production environment or other regulated environment is preferred Tolerance stack-up, GD&T experience is preferred Six Sigma Green belt certification is preferred PMI Project Management Professional certification is preferred Comprehension of standard costs and work standards is preferred Ability to travel up to 25%, domestic and international, is required At Johnson & Johnson, we’re on a mission to change the trajectory of health for humanity.
