    Position summary

    nologies and applications, developing concept proofs and prototypes, protecting intellectual property, system algorithm development, communication protocols, visualization, integration, testing, debugging, and much more. Controls and interfaces include motors, lasers, fluidics, pneumatics, audio, and other transducers. You will find the best mix of design and simulation combined with hands-on lab work and multi-functional teamwork.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and deliver robust and safe electrical systems for medical devices, from the concept phase and research through requirements & specifications, design, coding, simulation, testing, integration and debugging, to manufacturing and post-launch support.

    • Collaborate with a multi-functional team to build innovative solutions.

    • Design mixed/analog, power electronics, motor control, and digital circuit design and layout of simple to sophisticated printed circuit boards.

    • Perform high-level circuit simulations and modeling.

    • Develop embedded software/firmware.

    • Perform hardware testing for IEC medical safety and EMC standards.

    • Design, develop, and document custom tools.

    • Participate in the formal release process for medical devices satisfying quality and regulatory requirements.

    • Demonstrate leadership and expertise in electrical development, especially for failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) and patents, and act as a technical lead for subsystem projects.

    • Help to plan projects and communicate the status of plans to the program management team.

    • Live J&J's Credo by demonstrating a dedication to environmental and safety goals, policies, and procedures.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • 8+ years of electrical engineering experience (or equivalent with an advanced degree), of which at least 2+ years in an R&D and product development environment.

    • Experience with bringing up and debugging new hardware.

    • Experience with embedded software and C/C++ Language.

    • Experience with Linux, UML, and/or Visual Basic.

    • Proficiency in Altium Designer, OrCAD, and/or equivalent PCB schematic and layout tools.

    • Reading, understanding, and creating block diagrams, electrical schematics, and layouts.

    • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

    Preferred:

    • Advanced degree preferred.

    • Experience designing and testing for medical devices.

    • End-to-end product development cycle experience from concept through commercial launch and leading projects, collaborating with engineers/scientists and multi-functional teams.

    • Experience in managing external suppliers/developers and conducting prototype builds.

    • Experience conducting/leading electrical compliance testing.

    • Experience with batteries.

    • Experience with failure analysis.

    • Demonstrated experience in designing, testing, and solving for medical safety and EMC standards such as IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, and IEC 62304 for complex medical systems

    • Experience with control systems and communication protocols.

    Other:

    • May require up to 10% travel.

    The anticipated base pay range for this position is $104,000 to $ 166,750.
