    This role will be largely remote in nature, but candidates must be located in the Northeastern Unites States (NY, CT, ME or adjacent state) in order to be considered. This helps Leidos best serve the localized needs of our utility customers. Some regional and local travel is expected (~20%).

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Assist in the development and design of work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers

    • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.

    • Ensuring standards and equipment specifications are up to date and accurate, and reviewing standards against constructability requirements, industry standards and best practices, as required for client utilities.

    • Develop, update, organize and maintain standards, material specification, policies, procedures and work practices for client utilities.

    • Maintain familiarity with codes, regulations, standards and safety practices impacting equipment, materials and tools.

    • Provide support to team by serving as subject matter expertise on standards related issues.

    • Define design requirements and standards as requested by client utilities, including those associated with DER installations.

    • Ensuring that the distribution designs support a safe environment for utility workers, contractors and the general public.

    • Preparing bills-of-material for the development of material lists to support standard development, including the creation and maintenance of compatible units (CU's) and macro units (MU's).

    • Supporting non-standards related efforts including arc flash walkdowns and analysis, and distribution system modelling and studies.

    • Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.

    • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design

    What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements):

    • 3+ years of relevant work experience contributing to electric distribution projects for US-based electric utilities, either in a consulting environment for electric utilities or working directly at an electric utility

    • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited institution

    • Experience with the execution of distribution projects from kickoff through design approved, including Customer interaction and Process documentation

    • Ability to demonstrate proficiency with the NESC

    • Proven familiarity with overhead and underground distribution construction standards including weather hardening, NESC and Rural Utility Services (RUS).

    • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel could be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)

    • Ability to demonstrate strong technical writing skills for preparing material, service, and equipment specifications.

    • Willingness to perform both field and office work; Ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion; The role may require customer-site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages

    • Candidates should possess valid U.S. driver's license

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous QAQC experience

    • Experience providing estimated costs, development of a BOM, calculating the CIAC

    • Experience with design tools such as Pole Foreman, O-Calc, Spida-Calc, DDS or related

    • Experience with Work Management Systems for utilities

    Pay Range:
    Pay Range $57,850.00 - $104,575.00
