We are seeking a Distribution Construction Standards Engineer who will join our Energy & Systems Solutions group, and who will provide standards related consulting services.
It is expected that this role will involve the review of overhead and underground construction standards for distribution facilities. This position will work with drafters, designers, and engineers to perform standards related services for client utilities.
PLEASE NOTE: This will be a Q2 hire as we are looking to hire someone in early April for this position
Primary Responsibilities
Ensuring standards and equipment specifications are up to date and accurate, and reviewing standards against constructability requirements, industry standards and best practices, as required for client utilities.
Develop, update, organize and maintain standards, material specification, policies, procedures and work practices for client utilities.
Maintain familiarity with codes, regulations, standards and safety practices impacting equipment, materials and tools.
Provide support to team by serving as subject matter expertise on standards related issues.
Represent Leidos on industry committees.
Define design requirements and standards as requested by client utilities, including those associated with DER installations.
Ensuring that the distribution designs support a safe environment for utility workers, contractors and the general public.
Preparing bills-of-material for the development of material lists to support standard development, including the creation and maintenance of compatible units (CU's) and macro units (MU’s).
Supporting non-standards related efforts including arc flash walkdowns and analysis, and distribution system modelling and studies.
To be considered for the following levels:
Senior Level: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of four (4) + years of relevant Distribution Construction Standards Engineer experience
Lead Level: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of eight (8) + years of relevant Distribution Construction Standards Engineer experience
Principal Level: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of eight (12) + years of relevant Distribution Construction Standards Engineer experience
Basic Qualifications
Prior experience as in distribution standards at a large electric utility.
Requires a Bachelor's degree and 8 to12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 to 10 years of prior relevant experience.
Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET accredited institution preferred. May by waived for candidates with significant direct standards experience.
Familiar with overhead and underground distribution construction standards including weather hardening, NESC and Rural Utility Services (RUS).
Fundamentals of Engineering Certificate or Professional Engineering license preferred.
CAD experience preferred.
Working knowledge of applicable computer software necessary to fulfill job duties including but not limited to Microsoft Office, and computer aided design (AutoCAD preferred or Microstation, Inventor 3D, AutoCAD Electrical, or Civil 3D).
Must be able to manage multiple projects concurrently and be able to work effectively under the pressure of deadlines, and unexpected developments.
Must be able to communicate effectively, providing comprehensive project status reports, clear and concise correspondence, and accurate information.
Must possess strong organizational, computer, and problem-solving skills.
Must be self-directed and not dependent on detailed instruction from others.
Strong technical writing skills for preparing material, service, and equipment specifications.
