Description
The Defense Health Operation of Leidos is currently looking for a Research Technician to join the Expeditionary and Trauma Medicine Department supporting biomedical research at the Naval Medical Research Unit, San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) in San Antonio, TX. NAMRU-SA serves as one of the leading research and development laboratories for the U.S. Navy and conducts gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense (DoD) personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations. Members of the Expeditionary and Trauma Medicine Department conduct research focused on the protection, resuscitation, and stabilization of combat casualties at front-line points of care in the combat theater. This includes primary and pre-clinical research for the development and optimization of drug products, advanced therapies for the treatment of hemorrhagic shock and identifying and mitigating stressors through the evaluation of products and agents.
Primary Responsibilities
Sets up, operates, and calibrates laboratory equipment and apparatus
Performs daily laboratory experiments to include handling and restrain of various small and large animal species
Compiles and may analyze data using scientific or statistical techniques
Performs daily data analysis and report to PIs and other research staff
Assists in maintaining sterile equipment, pest control and record keeping
Reports on status of research activities
Implements and maintains research files
Writes and edits material for Standard Operating Procedures
Assists with preparation for presentations and written published articles
Aids in conducting daily and weekly inspections or areas of responsibility to ensure compliance with standards
Aids in obtaining peer-reviewed manuscripts and composing annotated bibliographies
Assists in ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies
Basic Qualifications
Candidates must have completed an Associate’s degree (with two years of experience) or a Bachelor’s Degree
Comfortable working with and handling animals
The candidate will be required to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level
Due to Federal contract requirements, US citizenship is required
Current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS); American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation); or equivalent. Web based classes do not meet these standards
Work Location
Work is to be primarily performed on a government installation
Pay Range $44,200.00 - $68,000.00 - $91,800.00
