Description
This is a STEM Intern software engineering position with Leidos' Transportation Solutions business unit. Specifically you will be working on teams responsible for developing and maintaining FAA air traffic control software. The environment is object oriented (primarily C++/Java), or C language on a UNIX/Linux platform. Seeking applicants with Computer Science/Software Engineering background and interest. Design, develop, document, test and debug software that contains logical and mathematical solutions to business/mission problems. Apply appropriate standards, processes, procedures and tools throughout the software development life cycle. Familiarity with UNIX, ANSI C/C++ (including POSIX), networking, multi-threaded programming and Linux/GNU or equivalent development and debugging environment beneficial. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
The En Route Display Management (EDSM) CSCI is home to the following areas: Radar Position Displays, D-position Views, A-Position Support, Specialist Displays, Commands, Data Synchronization and Settings, Flight Strip Printing and Toolbar Management. EDSM provides controllers with a real-time display which provides a graphical view of the current air traffic situation, including aircraft position (targets), flight information (data blocks), strobes, radar weather, Next-Generation Weather Radar (NEXRAD), geographical maps and other information.
Primary Responsibilities
In this position, you will work with a team of software developers, system integrators and system engineers supporting a number of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) programs. Specific responsibilities include:
Developing and maintaining FAA air traffic control software (primarily C, C++/Java) on a UNIX/Linux platform.
Strong communication skills.
Experience in following a documented Software Development Process
Troubleshooting technical issues
Experience using version control tools such as Git, Subversion or CVS
Experience in the use of UNIX and Linux operating systems
Basic Qualifications
Applicants for this position must meet the following requirements:
2023 High School Graduate
Passing grade in AP Java or AP Computer Science class
Participant in District 196 E3 STEM Program
Pursue a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
Familiarity with the following: Linux/UNIX, C/C++, Java, Scripting languages (PERL, C#)
Excellent written/verbal skills.
Acceptance letter from college for fall 2023
Candidates must be accepted into a degree program at an accredit college or university
Your GPA needs to be included on your application and resume.
US Citizenship Required
Candidate must be able to obtain an SF-85P Public Trust clearance from the FAA customer.
This is a job opening for a STEM High School graduate from local High School District 196.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with Air Traffic Control Software or Systems.
Pilot’s License.
Pay Range $37,050.00 - $57,000.00 - $76,950.00
