The Defense Health Operation of Leidos is currently looking for a licensed Veterinarian to join our team furthering biomedical research at the Naval Medical Research Unit, San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) in San Antonio, TX.
NAMRU-SA serves as one of the top research and development laboratories for the U.S. Navy and conducts gap steering combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense (DoD) personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
The Veterinary Sciences Department (VSD) Veterinarian will work in parallel with staff researchers to provide expertise and work for Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) approved research studies. The ideal candidate will be passionate about serving as an advocate for subject welfare and willing to provide mentorship to junior Veterinarian Technicians.

The Challenge:
Provide subject matter expertise (SME) work for US NAVY (USN) and US Airforce (USAF) research projects involving animal models
Provide DVM guidance for writing protocol-focused research proposals, animal use protocols, technical reports, final reports, and peer-reviewed manuscripts
Ensure study procedures are in accordance with IACUC and animal use regulations, proper set-up of experimental equipment, and study staff are trained for experimental procedures
Promote animal husbandry by providing animal care suggestions
Evaluate health status of subjects and serve as advocate for subject welfare
Provide on-call assistance during protocols, typically by phone
Provide support in development of in vivo and in vitro model systems, data acquisition, and data analysis
Serve as an advisor to contract personnel
Develop presentation materials, research Standard Operating Procedures, and present findings at technical and professional meetings
Maintain knowledge of standards of veterinary care in relation to relevant research models being utilized
What Sets You Apart:
Education/ Experience: Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine with a minimum 4 years of experience
Current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS); American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation); or equivalent. Web based classes do not meet these standards.
Willing to comply with COVID-19 related mandates
The candidate will be required to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level
Due to Federal contract directives, US citizenship is require
Experience with animal model research preferred

Pay Range $97,500.00 - $150,000.00 - $202,500.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
