Description
Leidos has an immediate opening for a Virtualization Systems Engineer in support of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. The position requires an active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility. All work is done onsite at DTRA’s facilities at Fort Belvoir, Virginia and Reston, Virginia, with a minimal amount of local travel in the National Capital Region (NCR). This is a full time position (40hrs/week).
Primary Responsibilities:
Designs and implements new VDI initiatives to meet DTRA mission needs based on the latest developments and trends in VDI hardware and software.
Analyzes and recommends changes to existing VMware Horizon environments to improve performance, usability, and customer experience across the DTRA enterprise.
Provides support for operation and maintenance of existing VMware virtual environments across multiple sites and enclaves, to include maintenance of virtual datacenters, virtual machines, physical hosts, storage allocation and configuration, virtual networking, and datacenter security.
Responsible for efficient operation and sustainment of existing VMware Horizon virtual desktop infrastructure, to include maintenance of security servers/appliances, connection servers, desktop pools, end-user devices (zero/thinOS Wyse client terminals and Horizon View soft clients running on Windows devices), and specialized desktop pools providing content to kiosk displays throughout the DTRA enterprise.
Troubleshoots and supports the Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM), App Volumes application virtualization and other complex issues in the VDI environment.
Analyzes virtualization and specifically VDI performance using monitoring tools and applications (e.g., vROps) to identify trends and issues and propose appropriate solutions.
Contributes to the creation and optimization of virtual machine images (servers and desktops).
Creates and maintains system documentation to include implementation plans, system security plans, as-builts, and architectural diagrams as appropriate.
Coordinates with project managers to develop project plans, communication plans and schedules as required.
Conducts market research and develops analyses of alternatives (AoAs) to recommend technology improvements and modernization initiatives.
Basic Qualifications:
Must have a current DoD Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility.
Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of experience or Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience.
Must have a 8570 compliant security certification (IAT Level II or higher).
Computing Environment Certification (VMWare Certified Professional (VCP)).
Fluent in VMWare Horizon VDI technology, including virtual desktops, App Volumes, Blast and PCoIP protocols, Dynamic. Environment Manager and Cloud Pod Architecture.
Working knowledge of third-party client management tools such as Wyse Management Suite and Teradici Management Console (PCoIP).
Familiarity with DoD certificate-based authentication (CAC and alternate tokens) and single-signon (SSO) integration with Horizon desktop services.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare professional briefs and documents for an executive level audience.
Preferred Qualifications:
VMware vROps Specialist certification.
VMware Certified Implementation Expert.
Desktop Management.
Microsoft Windows Server 2012, 2016, and/or Active Directory certifications.
Pay Range $97,500.00 - $150,000.00 - $202,500.00
