Position summary

iElsevier’s ongoing Data Catalogue department is the front door to our Business Data & Analytics Platforms. Our data catalog platform (Collibra) and tool helps organizations better understand and manage their data assets. Users can create an inventory of data assets, capture information (metadata) about them, and govern these assets. At its core, the tool is used for helping stakeholders understand what data assets exist, what they are made of, how they are being used, and if they are in regulatory compliance.

As a Product Manager you need to bring a strategic view to how to best support and empower our user community, not only in the Catalogue, but in the wider platform ecosystem and operating model for data and analytics in Elsevier.

About the role

The Product Manager Data Catalogue manages the Business Data Catalogue (based on the Collibra platform) and sets the strategic priorities and defines the feature roadmap.In short, you are a local expert for catalogue’s capabilities and business applications and evangelizes on data, analytics, and governance using success stories. Next to this you will develop strong relationships with business stakeholders and the development team, looking for ways to address customer (data stewards and analysts) needs, increasing catalogue’s data landscape coverage.

Needless to say that the role requires good understanding of analytical tooling, principles of data management and governance and strong stakeholder and change management skills.

Most important responsibilities

  • Craft, maintain, and prioritize catalogue’s roadmap based on requirements from key user personae and Elsevier’s business strategy
  • Actsas facilitator, mediator, and analytics translator between and within business and technology
  • Establish, grows, and facilitates catalogue’s stewardship community to drive change across various business domains
  • Look for solutions (people, process, and technology) which offer the best opportunity to solve problems of internal customers
  • Discover new opportunities for the catalogue across business and onboard new teams through user training, workshops, and doctor sessions
  • Write clear requirements for complex features together with a clearly articulating business benefits and is responsive to requests for clarifications
  • Understand company technology stack at a high level, for the broader product
  • Utilize or extends the company's platform and underlying technologies to create new product features
  • Understand emerging technologies and how they may be applied within the organization

An ideal candidate has

  • A minimum of a BS or BA degree. (BS in Mathematics, Analytics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Engineering or Statistics is ideal.)
  • Prior experience as an internal product manager
  • Prior experience with a data catalogue (preferably Collibra)
  • At least 3 years of experience in data/analytics or a client-facing consultancy role
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to interact appropriately with both business and technical stakeholders at all levels
  • An analytical, inquisitive mind
