Job Summary:
The Sr Manager, UX provides every-day leadership and tactical direction to a team (or multiple teams) of Product Designers, Researchers, Content Strategists, and Engineers.
This role provides input for the overall user experience strategy based on project experiences/learnings and works through his/her team to ensure that design strategies and standards are applied consistently across projects. This individual is largely accountable for the look and feel, and overall user experience of the products built and deployed by the Technology organization.
This individual manages people (including senior-level design and engineering resources) which includes responsibility for setting individual and team expectations, delegating assignments and managing performance, identifying talent needs, and coaching and developing team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Informs internal design methodologies and processes, and translates the UX strategy into the tactical direction for design team members
- Leads a team (or teams) of UX team members (design, research, content, engineering), including senior-level product designers and engineers, working on complex design projects
- Ensures that high-level UX company standards are consistently applied across projects; seeks to evolve design methodologies and processes with changing industry trends, tools, and technologies
- Ensures Lead level Designers consistently complete the appropriate level of review and critique before signoff on high-impact, high-visibility design projects
- Provides day-to-day direction and feedback to team members on design work
- Facilitates the collaboration of team members with cross-functional partners
- Facilitates productive, two-way dialogue between the design team and Technology team
- Provides insightful, tactical direction to team members; coaches and develops team members
- Helps the team solve escalated design problems at the project or product level
- Provides input for departmental budget and forecasting, and manages expenses associated with initiatives within scope of responsibility
- Creates and/or leads the creation of standard operating procedures and key performance indicators
- Controls project risks by analyzing and identifying trigger events, establishing contingency plans and recommending ways to mitigate future risks
- Provides leadership to the team by attracting and hiring talented individuals, setting goals and communicating clear expectations, providing timely and constructive feedback as well as meaningful developmental opportunities, managing performance, providing resources and support as needed, and sponsoring and leading team members through change
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience in a related field)
- 8 years of experience in UX Design, Product Management, or related area
- Experience leading a large-scale team/project within an Agile environment
- 3 years of experience leading project or technical teams with or without formal direct report responsibility; this includes experience providing technical direction, thought leadership, coaching and mentoring to team members
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in E-Commerce / Retail / Technology Industry
- Experience documenting and managing Team's sprint backlog through Agile workflow and processes (Including tools such as Jira and Confluence)
- Ability to present, illustrate, defend, and articulate design decisions with grace, logic, and supporting customer data
- Proven ability to successfully lead and orchestrate large-scale projects and initiatives involving multiple cross-functional teams
- Experience creating digital design strategy with user experience emphases in research, UX architecture, interaction design, and visual design
- Experience with crafting user experience journeys, roadmap planning, and working with Product and Engineering partners
- Experience with leading Product Design thinking sessions and end-to-end customer journey workshops
- Experience presenting new concepts and strategies to Senior Executives
- Experience creating and providing creative art direction and storytelling vision through motion and video design
- Experience crafting Mobile-First digital strategies with knowledge of mobile app and mobile ecosystem coupled with evolving trends, patterns, and principles
