    The Role

    The Manager Technical Support – Outside Plant (OSP) Fiber Installation and Maintenance provides daily technical oversite and tasking for a team of field technicians. Provides input to project proposals and adheres to project and O&M related budgets. Works with engineering and project management staff to define fiber testing schedule and priorities. Attends deployment meetings with customer and acts as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on cable infrastructure installation related activities.  

    The Manager Technical Support – Outside Plant (OSP) Fiber Installation and Maintenance ensures department is properly staffed, trained, and certified where required. Provides input into tools and equipment required to satisfy job/project requirements.

    The Main Responsibilities

    ·    Set up weekly schedules/monthly schedules for programmatic tasking and on call maintenance (24x7x365)
    ·    Performs annual dark fiber testing requirements working with engineering/project management staff for priority links and provides updates to as-built fiber planning
    ·    Oversite of staff in fiber splicing and testing, cable installation at customer premises, and minor conduit installations inside buildings
    ·    Provide staff assistance to route technicians when required
    ·    Attends customer meetings/site surveys as required
    ·    Repairs existing field hardware such as, cable grounding stations, hookup points, splice enclosures, handholes, and COTT markers
    ·    Review technician’s daily reports 
    ·    Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports for management reporting
    ·    Responds to emergency restoration events to include initiating plan of action and seeing through to completion
    ·    Ensures staff of technicians is properly and accurately recording time
    ·    Ensures staff of technicians is completing corporate, security, and customer training within allotted time
    ·    Maintains corporate provided tools and equipment ensuring tools are in workable condition
    ·    Provides reviews and inputs into project related proposals
    ·    Provides annual reviews for staff
    ·    Ensures employees are properly safety trained and maintain certifications for accessing various right-of-ways
    ·    Problem-solves when issues arise and provides recommendations for solutions 

    What We Look For in a Candidate

    Strong people skills and must be able to work in a group/team environment
    ·    Excellent organizational habits with ability to be flexible as daily activity warrants
    ·    Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to effectively interview technical contacts for content information
    ·    Strong technical skill in understanding optical fiber and its operation
    Education and Experience:
    ·    Two years of management/supervisory experience
    ·    Five or more years applicable work experience in utility construction related industry
    ·    Certification in EIA/TIA related programs 
    Security Requirements:
    ·    Active TS/SCI clearance
    ·    Must maintain eligibility requirements for access to classified information (applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation)
    Other Requirements:
    ·    Must have a valid driver’s license have a clean driving record
    ·    Some local travel required

    This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive.
