The Main Responsibilities

• The Technical Writer is responsible for generating innovative ideas for content to further the Black Lotus Labs mission of protecting our customers and keeping the internet clean. 
• While working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team of data analysts and scientists, reverse malware engineers and security engineers, this position will manage content strategy based on novel research from subject matter experts. 
• The position conducts regular and ongoing research on threat intelligence related to Black Lotus Labs’ core mission focus to identify opportunities to contribute our unique perspective to the conversation.
• As the primarily writer of Black Lotus Labs, this person works closely with a variety of subject matter experts to write and edit intelligence reports for public and private dissemination, including partner reports, technical blogs and other communications as appropriate. 
• The position is also responsible for monitoring and contextualizing largescale industry threats that internal stakeholders look to Black Lotus Labs to provide insight and education on.

What We Look For in a Candidate

Desired candidates will have a strong background exhibiting:

• Exceptional technical writing and copy-editing skills.
• An understanding of and/or interest in learning about the evolving threat landscape, specifically malware, botnets, DDoS attacks and attack vectors and advanced actor tactics, techniques and procedures.
• Demonstrated experience using, correlating, and analyzing information and intelligence to create clear, accurate and concise communications that match the needs and background of the audience.
• Experience using OSINT based methods for investigation.
• Ability to conduct intelligence research, analysis and assessments through the use of internal and third-party data sources, and to synthesize findings for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Adept at meeting multiple competing priorities, as well as determining what threats to research and monitor, and how long to spend on them to maximize the team's impact.
• Willingness and ability to build and maintain trust relationships across the business to drive collaborative efforts.

Well-experienced candidates may also have the following skills:

• Strong knowledge of one or more of the following areas:
  • Systems architecture and security
  • Network and application protocol knowledge
  • Malware behavior
  • Cryptographic theory and application
• Experience with Elasticsearch, Splunk, Tableau or other data visualization tools.
• Willingness and ability to act as company SME for threat intelligence related messaging and education.
• Experience penetration testing or participating in CTF contests.
• Familiarity with extracting data through SQL.
• Experience using statistical analysis methods.
• Development knowledge with Python, Java or Scala.
• Conceptual understanding of static or dynamic analysis of malware.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Required (education / experience / skills / competencies)
• Bachelor's degree or higher in English, communications, journalism, or a related field
• 9+ years of proven experience writing technical communications, including articles, reports, blogs and related materials. 
• Exceptional writing, copy editing and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to drive and manage content strategy with input from multiple stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to independently research and draft threat intelligence reports based on input from subject matter experts, and to draw key takeaways and conclusions that are meaningful to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Detail-oriented with ability to pose insightful questions of subject matter experts to drive the communications effort forward.
• Ability to translate complex concepts into simple graphics to aid in communications efforts.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and comfortability working collaboratively via Teams, Sharepoint, OneDrive and similar tools.
• Ability to independently identify and meet shifting priorities.
